I want less Complementary Cliché Shot Challenges and more originality! Not that I have any...

I joined to work on my creativity...something I lack. If I see something, I can see a good picture and I can take it. However, give me a subject/challenge and I often struggle to come up with something interesting. Much the same way with drawing. I am awesome about taking a small picture of a cartoon and drawing it. However, if you ask me to draw my own cartoon I cannot do it!

I joined up with the idea that it would force me to get out and take pictures of something other than my kids, and help me to get comfortable with my new camera. I think it is doing that, but I also find myself getting caught up in the whole scores thing, and beating myself up because I consistently score so low, and I'm not sure I'm enjoying taking pictures as much as I used to.

That's too bad. :( Your portfolio is great though, and I think you have some excellent ideas and executions. Scoring schmoring. ;)

If you are interested, or anyone else for that matter, I'm offering free photoshop videos that I'll personally make for specific questions, at my website, //www.konador.com/pp - There are already some videos up that I've done for other people, so you could take a look at them if they might help! Feel free to ask for a video, and tell anyone else you think might be interested :)

meet new people and to have peace on earth ... eeeek. is this "miss universe" competition ?
NO.

it's a CHALLENGE.

i want CHALLENGES :-), i want to see most beautiful photos from around the world, i want to meet different corners of the world, i want to expand my horizons, i want to learn everything there is about photography and world that surrounds use (even it sucks big time very often), i want to have fun, i want to see how people are using image manipulation software on their computers, i want to learn everything about distant countries, i want it ... all.

:-)

am i off-topic here ?

keep up. good thread here ...

peace,
goran

I'm here to learn everything as well. I've only been taking non-family type photos for two or three weeks now and ive already come a looong way. when i was a teenager i spent all my time in the darkroom but i wasnt too concerned with the pictures i took i just wanted to process them so I used disposables and never learned what aperature or shutter speed or anything was. then i started making photograms and didnt care a bit about picture taking. I boxed up all my darkroom stuff 6 years ago when i got pregnant and needed that darkroom/walk in closet for a nursery instead. i stopped everything photography related until a few weeks ago when my husband talked me into buying a digital SLR and competeing on this site. I think he figured id like photoshop more than i do because its "like" the darkroom. i think its nothing like the darkroom which i miss immensly, but I am getting into the actual picture taking part of things this time. so i want to learn it all! BTW please comment on any/all of my photos so that i may continue to learn.
Thanks
Crystal

When I found this site, I though it was the perfect place to share knowledge with other photographers, admire and learn from the pro's work, to develop creativity and the "photographic eye" and have a periodic way to exercise new techniques. So far I've found all of the above and much more!!!

But now that we're talking about wishes and desires, I'd like more interaction and commenting, to enrich my learning process.

HOW TO MAKE ONE MILLION DOLLARS :)

I just started at this site. I enjoy having people comment on my photos. It gives me a chance to look at my photos in a different way. I will see a comment and think ya they are right. I have only entered in 2 challenges. first one was a wipe out. Second one surprised me.
The challenges will make me really think and see things differently.

World peace...and really cute shoes. ;)

Actually, I joined originally to learn how to take pictures that went beyond the typical "mom snapshot." You know, that kind of picture that I have thousands of filed in shoeboxes. After four cameras and two years, I think I've finally reached that goal. Now I just want a place to have fun, hang out, and enjoy online fellowship with other like-minded folks. I still like to have a little external validation on the pictures I take, be it via scores, comments, or just the occasional "ooh" and "ahh." Mostly I just like to look at everyone else's pictures and say "when I grow up, I want to take pictures like THAT!" :)

I really want to know how to use my Metz 45 CL-4 flash, as I always seem to be over exposing things or getting hideous shadows where I don't want them.

It came with a remote sync thing as well, I haven't really got a clue how to use this properly either.

Off the top of my head, questions like this spring to mind

1) How do I get consistently well exposed pictures with the Metz and my 20d
2) How can I use this flash if I want to shoot some macro stuff
3) Should I shoot in manual mode?

I'm here to learn. My friend biteme told me about this website. I was a member of a Dutch forum but the quality of the photos weren't as high as here. I like it when people are much better than me, it makes me want to improve myself more and more.

Edit:

Oh, I guess I misunderstood the question of the topic. What do I want to learn? Well, that certainly is a difficult question, lol. I guess I want to learn how to make interesting photos of objects ( still life ). I like making portraits, but making interesting photos of objects is difficult for me. I'm considering to do a 30 days challenge with objects.

freakin' awesome .... you have an idea in your head about how someone might sound based on how they talk in the forums, what they look like, etc - I never in a million years would have guess that the voice on those videos is you, Ben. Not to mention I didn't even realize you'd have an english accent (LOL).

Great work, Ben. I watched the USM video.

Forgot to mention, your friends names poping up as they log on and off the internet is awesome :) Tells me you're just being you ... no special setups or false pretenses.

:)

I'm just here for the beer....

What I really appreciate is the exposure. Having an image with 8320 plus views and others with 1k, 2k etc. is really incredible.
