Just a short note to say I'm back! after a 4-day stay in the local cardiac intensive care.
Guys - listen to your bodies and don't be Superman.
Just had a pretty serious heart attack on Saturday morning and am back home, all safe & sound, and would not have been able to write this had I thought "it's nothing...". as my Cardiologist said, "that was one that would have put you 6' under had you ignored it".
On a borrowed puter right now, more later.... |

Oh heck, Brad..... glad you're here to tell the story.
I should really pay attention to this, I always play tough ('cause I'm too scared) and do the "let's see if it goes away by itself".
I'm thrilled you had more sense.
All the best with the rest of your recovery!!

Holy crap Brad! Darn good thing you acted quickly! Good to hear you came through well. Did they use a balloon catheter? Have you now got stents? If so, make sure they watch for re-closure. It happened to my wife's Dad, a couple months after stent placement. They remedied that, and he's been fine for more than 5 years.
Edit: this is close to home, since I'm only two years younger than you, and have a spotty family hitory in this regard :-P

Geez man, glad you're doing ok...I wonder if some of those nitro pills or whatever would help if you kept them in your pocket.

Brad...I am so pleased you are doing okay and pulled through. I am 38 years old and 2 weeks ago was taken to hospital by ambulance with suspected heart attack also. They found it be a collapsed lung, Enphysema, amongst many other problems. That week we didn't know what my future held. We now at least have an idea but I have to work hard to ensure that I see my children grow up....! So I can relate to your story...please everyone...listen to what Brad has said...listen to your bodies...one day it will be too late. And I don't think any of you can honestly say you have done everything you wanted to.
Can you....?

Got my puter wurkin finally - darn network card...
Anyway, thanks all! *hugs*
Just an update to the rather short story:
This was my SECOND time.
6 years ago had a similar experience, on my way to work, drove myself right to the ER with sweating, cold fingers and on&off aches in my arms.
Circumflex artery was not staying open, 2 stents installed, 4-day stay and kept right on going - until this Saturday morning.
At work again, this time, chest was burning, felt like it was in my lungs, though it was heartburn kinda' but arms a bit numb, then started sweating. UGH - sat down with no change, laid flat on my back on the cool floor, no change, said nuh uh... this isn't right, closed up shop, drove myself (again) to the ER only a couple blocks away, profusely sweating, had medical card & stent cards in hand, walked up to the window and handed them the cards and said I need help now.
Evidently I looked bad, was filling out papers as I was being wheeeled into the ER, overheard something to the effect of "this is a good one" (gulp) after they had the EKG hooked up and just before they attached the self-adhesive paddles for the "just in case" condition.
Was wheeled right to the Cath Lab, they found the Circumflex artery 100% blocked this time, angioplasty done, old stent removed, 2 new ones installed, a little preventive maint done and up to cardiac intensive care for 2 days, and out today, feeling like nothing ever happened.
(but know different - rehab, no more smokes, a little shift in foods and all will be well)
Guys, Gals, this is a public service announcement!!!
DO NOT ASSUME AND BE SUPERMAN/SUPERWOMAN!
Listen to your bodies. Heart attacks DO NOT have to be the classic Hollywood grasp the chest kinda' dramatized thing.
I some how have cheated death TWICE now, not because I'm special, but because I listened to my body's warning signs. This last one Saturday morning should have put me down for good, but somehow my heart sustained less that 10% damage and may recover completey. I guess it just isn't my time again and maybe someone will read this and benefit from it, perhaps saving someone else's life.
Edit to add:
Wanna' know how sick of a person I am?
Was desperately trying to find a way to see my score in the Negative Challenge while in the hopital.
LOL - I need help.
Was happy to check and find a 6.96 still though.
:D

Tickin enough to have one of the best Brats in town!
An occasional splurge couldn't hurt.

I'm only 42, and always pass my physicals, and have generally mid to low blood pressure, but I'm still scared to death: grandfather died at 48 from heart attack, my father had his first at 48 and died at 61, my mother had a heart attack in her mid-70s, my 59 year old brother just had stents put in (before the heart attack could happen).
Glad you've made it through twice, Brad, and are here to warn us all not to ignore the warning signs.

Dude. I'm lucky I was drinking anything reading this. I would have choked with laughter.
Glad to here you'll be okay. Physically anyway. ;) |
