I'm taking a good spanking in Free Study.

Spanks for the comment! It made me happy! That combined with the fact that my score is almost as high as my free study... LoL

Again, thanks for the comment.... you understood my picture 100%!

There are quite a few good entries so far. Some... well, are stretching it a bit.

But, please don't take comments from me about your photos as being mean.

I think that is great. What more could you ask for than to get comments and critiques from a professional in the particular industry. And I have to say that I'm very pleased with the comment that I received from you. Thanks!

Well, perhaps you could ask for someone that didn't burn out fairly young... LOL ... I hope other photogs in the field will follow my cue and give you guys some constructive feedback.

And all this time I thought you were just an expert on cheese. Who knew?

I know, it's hard to get past the cheese ... thought the PB would help diffuse the cheese, but no luck ... LOL

Yeah and that massive image on your profile page doesn't help either. :P

I got one of your comments and you told me to be careful of the title I chose. You said I had a nice photo. If the title and photo tells the whole story, then no one will want to read the article. The action of the photo and the catchy title should draw you in to read the article IMHO.

g

oh my goodness...I was critiqued by the "cheese man" ROFLMAO!!!!!

I agree!!! I had a similiar critique from the cheeseman. We will have a good debate after the challenge because he is wrong :)

Perhaps I am, but w/o the advantage of a cutline or story, I think the title should answer some basic questions for me.

BTW, didn't take title critiques into account much during voting.

Hey Leroy,
I really think that you are placing too much emphasis on the title. You mentioned in mine that the title wasn't news to you. I just want to point out that this is a photography site, not a headline or title site. Many of us didn't major in photojournalism, but we take half way decent photos. I am not upset, and most of the time I value your opinions. I just want to point out that this is DPC rather than DHC.

you were really nice to me but the votes don't reflect it! oh well eh.

i would like to take a moment to rant (a short rant)

WHY WAS THE IMAGRATION MARCH TODAY AND NOT YESTERDAY!!!!

i got a great shot down there and even atracted a photog. with a press pass and a trib. badge he took it right after me.....what gives...they planed it poorly

for me anyhow, and life should revolve around me dispite what anyone says.....lol...j/k to the last part.

_bran(thanks for the comment now voters anyone handing out 7s or 8s)do_

Perhaps I did comment harshly on titles. I guess half a semester on writing titles will do that to ya. :-)

FWIW, just because I commented on your title, that was the least important part of my voting on your image. What did matter wass that the story was complete.

Look at my average vote given. I'm pretty easy on entries when it comes to scores ;-)

I may I may have sounded a bit rude in my earlier post and will drop the subject till after the challenge and we can debate it then.

But most importantly thank you Leroy for making the effort to comment on all the entries, that is a fantastic effort.

We'll have a multipager for sure. :-) I look forward to it. I also look forward to seeing who did what.

Thank you much. I did find that commenting on all of them made me stop and appreciate each image. Was kinda refreshing. I'm in a creative rut, so it was nice to stop and smell the flowers.

Thanks for your comment. You had experience with the type of shot I entered, so you appreciated that it ain't easy! Thanks for the pat on the back...I needed that today :)

You're welcome. I hope other voters will vote realistically on this challenge. I see a lot of images I would like to see score well.

I agree with your general idea here, however, be careful how you judge "Photojournalism" I too was a photojournalist for many years. If you've ever worked for a major paper or wire service then you know that ANYTHING can make the front page.

You commented on my entry that it didn't really fit a news story. Photojournalism covers so much more than news. There's sports, fashion, feature, weather, etc. IMO the subject "Photojournalism" is too wide open. Also, the contest rules mentioned magazines too. So now you can include travel, computers, or any magazine subject.

just my 2 cents worth.

I took into account all the subsets of photojournalism you mentioned. If I made a comment about not being able to connect, you more than likely left some holes in the "story" that I couldn't find an answer too. It might also mean that I as a viewer didn't share the same point of reference as yourself.

But, once again, let me state that my comments were only my gut feeling what I though made the photo or what could have made it better. Negative comments doesn't mean I gave you a bad vote.

I'm going to open a thread after the challenge for clarification of my comments and offer critiques.

BTW, if you have the time, I'm sure the entrants in this challenge would love to have comments from someone other than an ex-journalist turned goofball (me). :-)
