I want to say, I am being extremely critical of the photojournalism entries. My college major is in print journalism and 7 years in newspapers and magazines makes me a bit critical I guess.

I'm making every effort to comment 100% of these entries, becaus I feel I should, being so nit-picky about them.

There are quite a few good entries so far. Some... well, are stretching it a bit.

But, please don't take comments from me about your photos as being mean.

Give it your best shot, tear my photo apart. I'll take an informed, honest criticsm over a "good job" comment any day!

Unless it really is that great, then you can tell me "good job!" ;-)

That is what I meant to say but it came out all S & M somehow...

Thanks for the comment fmann. Although it was/is very much on the subject, you thought it more a scenic shot. Guess if you where European or lived in Europe and followed the news you would see the relevance between the photograph and the text. Let's meet in a week. I too have experience as a journalist.
Absolutely no pun intended here, we Europeans can not stay in touch with all that his happening on other continents.
As long as you gave it anything above 6, I'm absolutely fine :-) You will only get spanking if you voted 8 or higher.

Got your comment Leroy, and I must say you are 100% correct. I had considered the point you brought up and dismissed it out of convenience. Good on you for noticing! No apologies necessary at all - Thanks for the solid, insightful feedback.

Nice! I haven't received any comments yet, but I am really looking forward to your critique, Leroy (and anyone else who wants to comment...my picture is the one, uhm, with no comments).

well, you commented on mine and pointed out a flaw.
I was just being lazy with that flaw, but it was a relevant point none the less.
Anyway, you told me that you gave me a nine, so I'm not complaining :-)
thanks.

i got a comment too. but i agree with your comments. its not my best work. BUT, if I receive a bad comment for my cliche entry later in the week then it might get ugly up in here..lol j/k (sort of) no hard feelings.

BTW, I didn't enter the challenge. I almost quit photography altogether from serious burn-out and stress from journalism. My last job I was both lead photographer and photo editor for a small weekly.

I left photography for about 4 years to bartend... LOL. I got back into photography through wet t-shirt contests and starting just doing portraits for fun, while I was bartending.

I much prefer the pace of portrait, boudior and wedding stuff I do now.

i, for one, leroy, have to take exception with your FLAWED assessment of my image! you absolutely have no clue what you are talking about. if you did, then others would feel the same way as you, and my score would be a LOT higher. as is, though, my score is low, and you are one of only a few who liked it.

;-)

hmmm... I received an interesting comment (may be yours... not sure as it was a brown bag). The person complained about the title, which was funny because it was a variation of a title used in my local paper... I guess I would have preferred a comment on my photo instead.

Oh well, I like my photo.

(and I did check the comment as helpful... as I do for most comments)

Good to hear. Looking forward to you comment ;-)

The funny thing about my photo is that the local paper had a similar style photo from the event in question as well (I ran into a number of the paper's photographers)!

Got your comment/spanking .. but the shot I submitted deserved it :)
Should have gone with the other one!

Skip, I'll make a stretch. If I can see it in any section of a newspaper or news magazine, I'll judge it as jorunalism and go from there with the rest of my judgement.

There are lots of shots that fit the genre: sports, lifestyles, human interest, hard news, even boring PR type shots.

I suspect I almost entered something very similar but went with a different shot (assuming I know what you were shooting and can reasonably guess which entry may be yours.)

Your comment on mine is most appreciated, Leroy - thanks!

you know i was poking you, just wishing others had the same discrimate eye. i almost wish part of the challenge was to make the title a cutline...

keep up the good work! good luck meeting your goal for the challenge!!
