So what does it cost for unlimited broadband DSL in your part of the woods.

San Antonio Texas
1.5 Mbps $12.99
3.0 Mbps $17.99

Just the additional cost of broadband to an already existing phone-line.

My neck of the woods still has ancient twisted pair phone lines and dialup service averages about .5 kbps at a cost of 10-20 bucks/month. But I use a full duplex satellite link that costs $49.95/month and averages 480 kbps. Living out in the sticks has it's disadvantages.

Cable is "broadband"...

DSL costs about $60/month (DSL+$20 for phone line) though they have a discount which brings it down to about $35/month.

I just got broadband wireless from Verizon via my cell phone. That's $44/month....pretty darn quick.

$65-ish per month and around 6Mbit down/500Kup; unlimited - Pathetic but no competition. I ignore the free emails, websites and junk because I never use them.

Edit: Cable no DSL available yet :-/

Sydney Australia:
1.5 mbps with unlimited downloads starts at A$70 (US$53) per month, but the reputable providers start at about A$90 (US$68) per month and go up from there. 6 month commitment required. For shorter periods of commitment, the rates start at nearly A$100 per month.

3 mbps is not widely available here... only on some exchanges, and only if you are close enough to the exchange. Not sure about prices.

$45.00 for cable here in Pittsburgh

I think we pay $84/mo for digital cable w/ all the HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc. channels, and 3mb/s internet.

Man, 3 years ago 3mb/s was pretty fast for cable. Now it just seems ho-hum compared to speeds that I see here. Hopefully my provider will upgrade their systems soon!

Yup... "Broadband" is a made up term usually used to reference the various alternative technologies that are able to deliver 150k+ on individual lines. (Cable, DSL, Satellite, Wireless, etc.) as opposed to the old 53k modem based dial-up, and the uber-expensive T-lines (T1's T3's and Optic connections).

Here in our town we have a municipally-owned city electric utility system, and they offer digital cable and internet all in one package. I get my electricity, water, sewer, garbage pickup, cable, and internet service all on one bill each month. I think the cable is $39.99 for the digital basic package of like 100 channels, and $34.99 for the internet service with three email accounts and a modem. I am sure there are cheaper options, but there's only one other cable company in town and they are a little higher. I don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience of just writing one check a month for all of that stuff combined. :)

I'm on DSL, 3Mb/s down and 768kb/s up, right now $24 USD/mo on an existing phone line. Price pressure from Cable keeps them competitive. In our area (Milwaukee, WI) cable can be somewhat faster, but is less reliable; we're almost never down, whereas friends who have cable service report more frequent, though short outages. Either service seems to be good. Only complaint I have about our DSL service is the "pppoe" strategy they use for logon authentication. Whoever dreamed up that abomination, slapping something like ppp on top of something as simple as ethernet?
It will be interesting to see where this market goes. Currently, anything over about 5 or 6Mb/s seems to provide diminishing returns, the backbone and server speeds limit you more than your connection. For households with multiple computers, however, the higher speeds are very welcome.

3 mbps Verizon DSL $35 month. Combined with my phone bill it's about $88 month total for unlimited calling anywhere in the US.
