In college, I minored in psychology, and majored in history ( This Day in History Thread).

How the hell I got into the career I am in now? It's a long story.

A prof. in one of my psychology classes focused on Creative and Abstract Thinking. I still have books in my library from those classes.

I am not an expert, so those of you that want to pounce on me know this now.

Creative thinking is part of photography. Your vision of your picture, the composition, lighting, everything is related to your creativeness. How you go about in getting your vision, and how your vision first stimulates your thought process is all part of your creativness.

The following exercise is for those brave enough to answer some simple questions to open up your right side of the brain to creative thought.

There are no correct answers.

Think of a simple block. 4 sides, a top, and a bottom.

1)What do the edges look like?

2)How many edges are there?

3)What do the sides look like?

4)How many sides are there?

5)How many corners are there?

6)Is the block large or small?

7)Is it light or heavy?

8)What color is it?

9)What is it made of?

I agree fully with the statement "creative thinking is part of photography".

I do a lot of creative facilitation to develop TV ideas and the key to successful innovation is using the right 'creative behaviours'.

In essence these are about being open to new ideas, being generous enough to build ideas rather than criticise them and a being brave enough to work on ideas that initially seem far too 'out there'.

Once you are 'behaving correctly' there are a number of techniques that help to free up the creativity that is hidden inside each of us.

i somehow imagined the block to be more of a carboard box. i am unsure why i would immediately fall to that.

maybe just hoping for a new cardboard box in the mail. lol.

The edges are smooth and rounded.
There are two parallel continuous edges ending in an apex.
The two sides are smooth, oily and have small specks of a different material on them.
The only corner is the apex.
It's very tiny in size.
It is heavy for it's size.
The color is tan.
Made of oil and fiber.

Very odd. After I did this exercise, an invisible block materialized in the middle of my room. I had to walk around it to get out the door. If I did the steps again, but imagined it very small, the block disappeared...

I think....

;)

1)What do the edges look like?
--- Furry and Jagged

2)How many edges are there?
--- Multiple edges because of the jags, but 12 in traditional cube standards

3)What do the sides look like?
--- Plush with bald spots

4)How many sides are there?
--- Traditional Cube 6 sides

5)How many corners are there?
--- seeing on how a corner is a connection of two points the jags create a multitude of corners. However traditional cube is 8

6)Is the block large or small?
--- Monstrously Large, I was thinking of having a photo shoot inside.

7)Is it light or heavy?
--- Fairy light and Hollow

8)What color is it?
--- Lime green, Hot Pink, Fusia, and Marmalade

9)What is it made of?
--- Funny you should ask. It was weaved by a group of pigmee canibles... so I don't really want to think about what it 'could' be made of.

Geeze, here goes nothing LOL

Think of a simple block. 4 sides, a top, and a bottom.

1)What do the edges look like? The edges are sharp but rough and appear to dissapear because my block is lying on its large, flat side with one end facing me and the other facing away.

2)How many edges are there? I can see 3, the other three are not edges from my viewpoint but simply where the block ceases to exist.

3)What do the sides look like? They are red and pockmarked, full of holes... some the size of a pin head, some the size of my thumb.

4)How many sides are there? 2 sides from this view, one end.

5)How many corners are there? One sharp one right near me.

6)Is the block large or small? Neither, it is medium sized. About the size that you could hold comfortably in your hand.

7)Is it light or heavy? Fairly light but would hurt if thrown hard.

8)What color is it? Deep red. The colour of a crimson sun when it first rises in the morning over the horizon and you can still look at it without it hurting your eyes.

9)What is it made of? Baked Clay. Not the ugly, gray stuff, but the warm, red clay that you can dig out of the ground and really smell earth in.

Gee, what does that say?? ROFL
