It's an ADB interface tablet with a Griffin USB adapter. It'll work on a USB Mac, but I don't think Wacom's driver for that model works with OS X. |
My PowerBook runs OS 9, though I think with the Griffin adapter it might not support the pressure-sensitivity feature.
It'd be fun to play with a bigger tablet, but I already have a couple of 4x5's which still works, so I'd only take it if no one else wants it. |

Is ANYONE ELSE still waiting for theirs to arrive? Did anyone who didn't actually order one get mine??

Quick question, might have been answered but I'm not sure...
Can you make the pen pressure change the opacity of the brush in PS, rather than the size of the brush?

It comes with a pressure-sensitive "pen" that you use instead of a mouse. In graphics applications like Photoshop this is a much more natural way of "drawing lines". You look at the screen, watching the cursor, and move the pen exactly as if you were drawing. It's a very nice way of making selections, burning-and-dodging, stuff like that, because you can be much more precise. Also, the pressure you apply to the pen is mapped to the brush you are using, so you can make lines narrower/wider just by pressing harder or more lightly. It's incredibly useful that way, especially in masking mode.

Now I want one. :( |

According to the PDF manual online, you can control opacity with pressure, yes. I haven't yet found how to trigger this, but it seems to be tool-specific according to the wording. If anyone knows how to change the pen pressure from width-specific to opacity-specific, I'm all ears...

I beleive that if you hold down Ctrl or Alt while painting that this will then modify the brush to opacity pressure level. Don't have it in front of me, but I will check when I get home.

Ctrl and Alt just change the tool for me. Like bear touched upon in his post, if you use dodge or burn, the pressure changes the opacity which is very useful! But I would like that functionality with the paint brush tool if that's possible?

Look in the tool Options -- there are check-boxes to set pressure or opacity or color (or some combination).

Oh wow, never saw that box in PS before! Thanks!

You will note that the brush toolbar has changed and has an option called 'Tablrt Options' where you can select this. |

After reading half of this thread, convincing myself of all the reasons why I should get one and deciding that it was the right price... I go to the site and the item is now discontinued. Hrmph! Now there's another item sitting on my wish list!
Edit: Still available in white though I see... yay!

I got mine on thursday and played with it quite a bit. I love it. I decided my son could really benefit from one so I ordered him one. Better order one before the white ones are gone as well.

Did you notice if you bumb the Erase end against the tablet while web-browsing... it acts as a back command.

Hmmm. I finally got mine tonight, opened, plugged in, but am not sure how much I'm gonna like it just yet. I'll have to play with it a bit. Seems rather awkward to me right now. |

Stay open minded and you will love it. hehe
Just start by editing some non-critical images.
As an aside I was in at Calumet today and the had several Intuos 12x12 boxes displayed and I thought, "My gawd, that's huge compared to my 4x5!" I'm very happy with my 4x5. |

I am kicking myself I didn't get the larger size and years ago :-) I love the 4x5 - I have a long way to go but I just used it for a day with everything (browsing, copying files e.t.c.) to learn and it feels good. |

my main difficulty is clicking once... when i lift the pen high enough to click, i usually bring it down in the wrong place. Is this just something i need to practice?

Same happens for me. I don't use it for browsing, just for photoshop. If you change the sensitivity you can move it around without lifting it up, without it clicking. Then you can just press harder on the spot where you're already touching.

OK, OK, I'm totally sucked in and have just purchased the Wacom - pearl white. Now all I have to do is have patience for UPS. :) |
