OK Some of you may know about my leaving Japan experience and then being stuck in England because I have lost all my entitlements for 6 months, ANYWAY....
I have been searching high and low for a job and I believe I have just found one. I have been talking over a period of 2 weeks with the owner of a company that supplies major newspapers with photos of certain people and events (sorry about the lack of details) I think basically it involves shooting semi-famous people on location for news stories and magazines.
I have, and still do to a certain extent, worked for magazines before in Japan but I think this is a whole new ball game, Im very excited and don't want to blow it at the first fence. I have the D2H with a D50 back up and an SB800 flash. Is it reasonable to assume that I will be shooting with flash at all times? and any other help or advice would be greatfully appreciated. I wish I knew more about it to tell but he has been fairly closed about the job he just said "be prepared to work because we are very busy".. hence why I will meet him and the rest of the guys in 2 weeks. He also said "You live close enough to the rest of us, have a decent camera and your CV was great, we just need to meet up on the 7th so call me on the 6th and ill tell you where"..
Sound positive?.. I hope so
Thanks for any comments

Sounds like a paparazzi job. If you can be ruthless and have the ability to spot a famous person at a distance, go for it. I hope I'm wrong, but even the big agencies such as Getty are only interested in 'pap' shots from their stringers.

Im not sure it is a pap style job because the sessions are pre arranged and not GO GET EM type of thing.. not 100% sure. That would be a bummer to be honest if it is pap style then it is not for me..
Thanks for the input Bobster
Nasti- thank you hun better cross the other fingers too Im hoping it is not the blooming paps im not THAT aggressive

You mentioned flash, it's still a good idea to use flash outdoors for portraits etc. for the fill-in, isn't it? I'd suggest keeping the flash handy.
Good luck with it.

Hope this works out for you and isn´t a paparazzi job. I´d still take that for a while over nothing at all but I must say there is only one thing that I consider beneath me in the photography world and that is paparazzi shooting. I can and will accept anything else, no matter how dirty I must get my hands.
Anyway, regarding the flash, if I leave the home with a camera, I always take a flash with me, ALWAYS. You never know when you are going to need it or not. |
