I've used the Intuos 2 6x8 tablet for years although I'd prefer this instead: Wacom Cintiq :) |

Everybody has their horror stories about "mail order" but I've had excellent service from B&H. Camera body and all lenses are from them.
I'm really gonna need those Photoshop lessons now, aren't I? |

Oh, I'm not the least worried about the service; I buy stuff online all the time. BUT this is the first time I have bought at this wicked store, and I'm skeered to quakin' I won't be able to stop, now that I have all that auto-complete info at the B&H site making the shopping so EASY...
And yes it's time to learn Photoshop; c'mon up for some lessons? BYOB :-)

OK, now that you've gone and done it (ordered from B&H, that is) I can tell you that they will send you a catalog. A heavy, THICK catalog with everything in the world in it. It's downright cruel, I tell ya!
BYOB? Bed? Basket of fruit? Big Bertha? (I actually have that one.) I suspect I'll have at least one trip up that way in the coming month or two, which I realize is the wrong season and all, but better than nothing! |

I've been thinking of getting a tablet for a while now, mainly for health reasons (have a trapped Ulna nerve in my right arm). Is using an A5 tablet a world away from an A4 one? would bigger be better in this case?

to respond to Bear's comments on using the mouse/pen
I am finding I use the mouse most of the time still however with photoshop, I don't use the mouse at all, only the pen. I don't mind using the pen for other tasks either, and I actually think it is quicker using the pen to navigate anything, with the exception of when there is a lot of going back and forth between the keyboard and mouse... then I think the mouse is quicker.

Just an FYI for all you people... you can actually get the Graphire4 from CompUSA for only $10 more ($69.99 and no shipping)! They have a special deal going on right now with a $30 rebate.

It normally comes with a pen and cordless mouse. The pen is actually double-ended -- the other end of the pen is usually set up like the eraser tool. |

Actually the season is fine; we're simply in the springing of the year now. Beds we got. Baskets we got, a couple of 'em anyway. Big Bertha I've got, though you might not like my version. What we don't have is Moonshine; that's what you Texans drink, right? BYOB :-)

When I'm doing a lot of typing, I have to put the pen down, but much of the time, I've found I can type with the pen still in hand. :)

Man peer pressure is the root of all evil. Only 60 bucks shipped, I've been wanting to try working with one of these and I spot edit all the time so i figured I'd go for it. Just another drop in the bottomless pit of photography related equipment. |

OK.. so I had a day to play around with my new tablet and here are my thoughts. After the first hour or two I was convinced that I was going to return it. Just did not like the feel of it and it seemed to make working in PS MUCH harder than before. However I decided to try and force myself to get used to it and used it the entire day to web browse, type in Word and any other program that I used. After all that I am REALLY liking it. Went back into PS and tried again and the flow is much easier now. The biggest difference that I am sure everybody will notice is that you no longer can use just your wrist to move the cursor like a mouse. You really need to use your entire arm to cover the entire screen. There is no picking up the pen and recomposing like on a mouse. When you lift the pen up the cursor still tracks. So yeah there is some learning curve, but not that steep of one.
I'm sure with a few more days of practice than I will really be using it well. Definitely a keeper for me!

Hehee Lexi barked back something about her stupid human taking her to the vet for shots today and she's pouting!
I'll get her a UPS uniform so she can deliver your tablet when she feels better. :)

So I am really intrigued by this discussion. I am an avid track ball user. Has anyone used both a tack ball and a tablet? I would be interested to hear your preference between them. |

As far as I'm concerned, the trackball is the worst possible device for photo editing....
