Yeah...without question.
bland, bland and blander
Before LOL
After
My in-camera execution, post-processing, composition and shot choice have all gotten better. Between a lot of shooting, constant reading and DPC, I feel like I've come a long way but you be the judge.

From this
to this
2nd one isnt a challenge photo but it is the most recent photo Ive taken that is posted and sort of the same subject. I know i have improved Alot but i have Alot more to learn. The last year has been a whirlwind of information and knowledge for me and I am just now beginning to sort out all that knowledge and put it to good use.If it were not for DPC i wouldnt know a thing! I would still be taking the snapshots I used to and think they were good.Granted my shots are still no where near ribbon material but i have grown as a "photographer" 100% in the last year.
for me skiprow said it best "two of the main things i've learned here are 1) have a strong subject (even if you're photographing a landscapte), and 2) pay attention to the details--even the little ones.
beyond that, practice, practice, practice, practice.

First April 9 2005
Best April 2 2006
I think I have improved in some areas and stayed the same if not gotten worse in other areas. I still have my wierd sense of humor.

Well I've certainly improved. My first 25 entries averaged 5.798, including two top-10 finishes. My most recent 25 averaged 6.502, with half of those finishing in the top 10 and 7 ribbons.
It's starting to get serious, too... in the past few weeks, I've sold my first stock photos- for $250 each. I took some snapshots of kids at a communion rehearsal last weekend and my wife showed them to her friends on my camera's LCD screen. Two moms hired me on the spot to take pictures of their kids (one of them cancelling an appointment with a pro). The local zoo director is meeting me this Saturday to take photos for a promotion, and they want me to be their official photographer. I think I've become the de facto photographer for my kids' school (I was there again this morning), and my very own Alien Bees lights are due to arrive today. Woohoo... all this from a Google search for a camera problem two years ago that lead me to this site! Who'd have thunk it? ;-) |
