Spybot and Spyware Blaster together work wonders. They can both prevent it from coming back too. Good luck!

I used to use both AdAware and Spybot,
but all that changed after I found Microsoft Defender.
Microsoft Defender (freeware from Microsoft)

I'm running Adaware, Spybot and the MS software. I think the MS software is only a trial though. The copy installed on my computer has an expiry date. It came with my new computer.

the microsoft defender has had expiration dates before (aka Microsoft Anti-Spyware) and you just go to microsoft and download the newer version for free.

I hope that works. I have infected with some sort of spyware is almost impossibe to get rid of, and nothing worked.

And it was not from porn, it was from some frigging ad that set my home page to something else...it was a bugger to get it off. Nothing worked.

Thats some bad stuff, I hope yours gone as I type.

I've been using Ad-aware from LavaSoft for a long time and it works great, best of all its FREE. The free version you have to manually scan, but if you do it once a week your cool.

Microsoft Defender is in beta, when the beta is over there will be a yearly (subscription) charge for it... if you have downloaded and are running it you will be offered the first year for $19 and yearly (subscriptions) after that I believe will be will be $29. It won't be free much longer.

ED: As I was... I just went to MS and Checked again and I guess that they changed their mind, all you have to do is validate that you don't have a hot copy of windows to get it for free. That's kind of funny as they were sending emails to the original beta testers stating that there would be a year cost associated with it...

I have found that running Ad-aware with Windows in safe-mode catches things that it otherwise misses.

You can't just run one anti-spyware program, they each catch different things. And you should have something that catches spyware on the fly (like Spybot's Tea timer).

Make sure you're running a firewall of some sort. Hardware firewalls (routers, etc) are fine, but they and the Windows firewall leaves much to be desired, AFIK, they don't block outgoing connections (that is, they don't stop viruses, adware, and the like from "phoning home".) Zone Alarm has a free version of its firewall that does this.

Also, there's somtimes a very small difference between ad-ware and viruses, so keep your antivirus program updated.
