I got some new lenses, and need a new backpack as my Canon one doesn't hold everything now. I was looking at either this or the Lowepro Nature Trekker, and I thought I'd check with anybody here who owns one to hear first-hand how they like it before I order it. Those little gadget pockets on front look pretty handy, and it's a little deeper than the Lowepro according to specs. I checked out the Expedition 8 first-hand, but that thing is just TOO big. Thanks for any advice.

I have the Expedition 5, which is just a size down, and I really love it. It holds all my stuff and I don't worry about it falling open or getting bumped. The gadget pockets are handy, as is the tripod carrier. And of course it accepts the MAS expansions (and the other set, the name of which I've forgotten). Most of all, it's the most comfortable backpack I've ever carried.

It's my first bag, in addition to a Digital Zoom 4 holster, and already I'm sticking with Tamrac for whatever I need.

My $.02, hope it helps :-D

I have the Expedition 3 and the Adventure 75. The Expd. 3 is great for a day at the zoo or other out & about day, but I really prefer the Adventure 75 for serious shooting because it holds all of my kit! Do keep in mind that you want a bag a little bigger than you need because us photog nuts are always buying new stuff!

Does it hold a laptop?

nope sorry no laptop option on that bag. I was looking for a bag with a laptop option also but never found one I liked

Nope, no laptop, but I never bring my laptop along unless I'm on an overnighter and then it's used to just back up the files. I use a portable hard drive most of the time when my memory fills up. Thanks for all the responses everyone.

I very nearly bought the Tamrac Expedition 5, but bought the Lowepro Mini Trekker AW instead. I liked that it was more compact and streamlined on the outside, more likely to have better protection in the event of torrential rains (just moving into that season now here), and I liked the tripod holding system better. I hummed and hawed a lot, but the tripod mounting system sold me. My tripod is quite large when retracted. I was worried that the tripod would extend above my head with the Tamrac bags...

I did like the Tamrac, but for double the price, it just couldn't compare. Evenly priced, I still think I would have made the same choice because of that AW 'jacket'. Those are nifty waterproof zippers on the fold-out pockets, but I just don't trust them in a real rain.

I don't know if it will be large enough for your purposes, but I am finding it to be almost a bit too large.

I am setting it up to be able to handle a 30D with an 80-200mm L and a Kenko 2x TC mounted to the camera, with at least 3 other lenses, a Sigma flash, a lesser slave flash, some filters, a tripod lens collar, my S2 IS, and possibly my Pano/portrait mode adaptor.

I feel that it would not be too difficult to add my 2nd light tripod as an external flash mount if I ever needed it.

The bag will double as an in-house organizer/safe storage for my camera gear which is getting a bit out of control space wise now.

Oh yeah, and it appears that there is probably enough room for my Tablet PC if I were to want to bring it too.

I have the Expedition 7. I love it and would highly recommend it.

I actually ordered the Lowepro Phototrekker AW II originally, but that bag was too big (could not be used as a carry-on). The Expedition 7 is slightly smaller than the Lowepro, but it fits all my equipment (see my profile...it fits it all, along with Lens hoods, camera releases, Epson protable HD...). It also just makes the carry-on status with the belt harness (very important for travel), I would not suggest anything bigger if you are going to use it as a carry-on.

My only other piece of advice...if you are planning on hiking with the bag (long mountainous hikes, multiple days) you may want to get a larger bag (the Expedition 7 is exactly what I need, but does not fit me well enough to make hiking comfortable). However, I am fairly large (6'3") so the Expedition may fit perfectly on a smaller person.

Hope this helps!

Anyone interested in buying a new, unused Expedition 8? I won it, and it is too much bag for me and my camera stuff.

I have an Expedition 5 and a 7. I use the 5 for smaller, day-long-type things and the 7 for travel and things like that. They're both great, but keep in mind that they're backbacks, so don't plan on being able to pull your camera out real quick when you see the perfect shot...it'll take you a minute. Other than that though, considering the size and all that fits in it, the Expeditions are very comfortable and practical.

Geez...I feel like a Tamrac sales rep :-)

I have the expedition 7 also. It's a great bag. I can't complain about it in any way.

Thanks everybody for your responses. I think I'm going with the Tamrac, except I have to wait until tomorrow to order... B+H is down until then. :-(

B&H is great, but you can probalby save a good bit if you find this bag on ebay. I got mine on ebay and I think i saved about $25 or $30 by doing so...

** Scratch that... I checked and there aren't any real deals. I saw one for $145 but they want $30 in shipping, so stick with B&H...

Well, I'm willing to let it go for less than retail, but not that low! (The bag retails for about $200.) I'd like to get some $ to help with my recent Rebel XT purchase.
