I'm going to be getting my 30D soon... well, maybe not until July. But, I took these with my Olympus today at 100 ISO. This kind of noise shouldn't be happening at 100 ISO.

Yuck..... I mean I'm not all that happy with my camera's results in terms of noise - but I've never seen anything that bad at ISO 200 (It doesn't have an ISO 100 setting). |

Yeah, I've had on-going noise issues with this camera. I think it's something wrong with my camera though, and not neccessarily all Olympuses everywhere. It's getting worse too. I basically can't shoot in ISO 200 or 400. You just wouldn't believe the noise in those ISOs. At least this I can mostly fix with Neat Image. The noise I'm getting in 200 and 400 ISO is beyond repair. |

Really? I've never once had a problem with noise with the DS, even at ISO 1600 (which obviously has noise, but is 100% comparable with my friend's 20D, believe it or not). It's all about exposing correctly. |

So what are you going to do when you get that 30D and you still have noise problems from incorrectly exposing your photos? Send me that E300 and let me shoot with it a week, I'll tell you in a day if you have a camera problem or not.

She could always buy a 1DSmk2 and a bunch of L glass and send the 30D to me :) |

Ha! Gary's already let me play with my 30D...no noise! I also don't get noise playing with my brother's D70. Neither of the above pictures were under-exposed. They're both in my gallery basically off-camera except for being run through Neat Image.
Also, with the 30D and my brother's D70 I can use the auto-settings. On my E-300, it over exposes. Plus, if it was just me doing something wrong, the problem wouldn't be getting worse...which it is.

I'd like to look into your problem a bit with a contact of mine. Can you send me the unaltered original file so that it can be analyzed? If so e-mail it to moharver at sbcglobal dot net

Everybody knows it's the camera that causes a picture to be good or bad and NOT the photographer!

Normally I'd agree, but noise is so subjective to lighting. I can take a photo at ISO 800 and it will look like garbage...or I can take a nicely exposed photograph in the same setting at ISO 1600 and it will look perfect...either way though I'm sure the 30d will be much better in low light heh...

This is the unedited picture that the lips came from. This one hasn't even been through Neat Image. |

I need the full file, exif attached just straight out of the camera, so that all settings as well as Firmware and other things can be checked. Can you e-mail that full file to me. Doesnt matter if its RAW or SHQ or whatever. I have highspeed and can download.

I don't have high speed. I can't upload anything much bigger than that file.
This picture was done with my brother's D70 using the same settings as the picture from the Olympus.
My brother spent today playing with my Olympus and comparing it to his D70 and D2X. First, he just proclaimed my Olympus effed up. When I asked what that means, he said it's not metering right. |

Your original is incredibly blue on my monitor, suggesting maybe a white balance issue? I'm not sure, but I think that the blue channel has more noise in it than any other, and as blue as it looks, that might be part of the problem. I could be a babbling idiot, though, so take it for what it's worth. ;)
