A ong story, but the short version...Donna, a very kindly lady (coworker) of mine asked me to do something with a poem her and her husband wrote a few hours before he died. I took their last photo on Valentines Day (he died due to surgical compications about 2 weeks later).

This is what i got...It's close to something good...any c&c, ideas..

What i have to work with: (as captured proof...i rarely show my proofs without at least some PS work, but i got breezebrowser so 2 or 3 clicks and the RAW file is a web-ready JPG...dangerous this software stuff)

Thanks,
there are SOOO many color/font/effect options I don't even know where to begin, much less when to stop LOL

She has lots of friends so this may be good for my business - I have no idea what she has in mind, but this (overall anyway) is what came to my mind. I used the colors in his sweater.

It made my wife cry...always good to move the emotions!

I've never done anything like what you are trying to do. It's very nice of you to do this for her.
Since you have isolated his picture, have you considered putting a real sunrise/sunset in the background? Or another picture that would help visualize the poem? A background picture would allow you to reposition him to create a more balanced composition.
Another thing you might try is a bookmark. If she reads her bible regularly or any other devotional type book on a daily basis, a bookmark would allow her to experience the picture and poem on a more personal level.

Very well executed. Great work. What I would like to know is how you were able to extract him from the picture with such precision.

Chris, I too think you did an excellent job and your efforts are touching.

Just one little thought. I would suggest removing your name at the bottom. Since it is specifically for a friend she knows it is from you. I just think the pciture and poem needs to be about them.

Please don't read anything critical into my words - absolutely none intended.

I thought about that, but i do have a phtography biz, and she knows it. depends on what she wants for output..an 11x14 it stays. a 4x6, a sticker on the back.

the bookmark idea i like!

I need a sunset pic...

Very nice Prof, and nice of you to do it. Since you're using a light colored text, I'd go darker with the background. That will also highlight his features as well.

Chris...soften your selection around the guy...he's popping off the page and almost looks like a ghost...I think if you feathered it some more, it would be better.

really moving, i'm sure she'll be touched.

The second one seems more cut-and-paste, like deapee mentioned... also i personally prefer it without a title. Atm i definitely prefer the first.
