I have lots of favorite photos on this site, as well as many others (I'm speaking of other people's images). I am thinking about placing my favorites from various websites into a PBase gallery. Proper credit would be give to the photographer. This 'collection' would be for me to keep track of some of my favorite images/photographers. Do you feel this would be inappropriate, even with credit to the rightful owner? Thanks,
JD

To be honest, not really.
Giving credit is not the same as getting permission from the owner of the image.
It's a nice thought but if the image were mine (not that it would be coz mine are crap) I would flattered for a second or two but mostly miffed.
But that's just me.

well, as long as you're not selling them or claiming them as your own and credit is given I see no harm in it. As long as you get their permission (dont just give credit). I for one would say yes, but I'm afraid you don't have any of my pictures as a favorite. Check them out. Maybe you'll find something you like. :) Who's going to sell our low res versions anyway? That would just be silly.
cheers!

i would have to agree with kavey .... granted taking the images wouldnt be cool - even giving credit where it's due ... BUT .. maybe just makeing a links page - like to the website to either their own personal site or photos on here - i think that would be more appropriate .. my 2 cents

I agree with the link.. especially since there is a special section right here on DPC that keeps track of your DPC site favorites.

Thanks for everyone's input! I'll use links, or possibly not do it at all rather than offend anyone...
Thanks,
JD

I think you should first ask to use the photos before posting your favorite photos to another site.

You certainly may keep your favorite photographs of other photographers any place you want, as long as it is not a public forum. If you choose to display another's work in the context not intended by the author or without permission, that would constitute blatant infringement. At the most you could be held responsible at various levels of litigation, in the least you would suffer irate and indignant e-mails.

When I sell pictures to a newspaper I turn to the pricelist of the Photojournalist Society. It also has prices for (re-)publication on the Web. For a 600x400 pic on a site without its own domain-name I would have to charge €380.- if it remains on display for one year (this price is negotiable). So, if you want to publish pictures from DPC on your PBase-site, be sure to ask permission of the maker of the picture or you may find yourself in big trouble.

OK, Jason, your Cheetah shot made my favorites! I had to take a look since you challenged me! It's a good shot by itself, but your comments made it even better!

Once again, I doubt that I'll make a site of my favorites. It was not intended for public viewing, just an idea to consolidate my favorites from various contest sites. I very much respect the opinions of the owners' which is why I started this post. Thanks for your input.

JD, I don't know if I'm on your favourites list, but you may take my pictures and do pretty much everything you want with them (copying, modifying and even selling).

Photography is a hobby for me and it's not like I'll ever want to (or can for that matter :)) earn money with this. So I decided to put them under the terms of the Free Art License. I very much like the way of thinking of the people who made this license.
