I'm not good at these, but the first thing I'd fiddle with is borders, or spacing in between some of the pictures.
For instance, the top one, I'd crop some of the empty space on the left, and put a spacing in between the pictures because all I see is different shades of green not matching up.
ALso, how come they are all the same size? I'd play with portrait set ups, square crops, different dimensions...

These are layouts that will be in a digital flush mount photo album for samples of my work. The will be in an 8x8 album that is panoramic so that's why they are so short and wide. |

First, let me qualify what I'm about to say... I'm a programmer by trade and a photographer by passion. The programmer in me thinks in straight lines and square boxes. I have to "fight" to suppress the urge make everything fit neat and tidy in place.
With that said, what I'd recommend is that you look for creative ways of putting the pictures together. Less straight line-ish and less boxy.
I would suggest using Fotofusion to create your pages. It will be a whole lot faster. And being faster, it will allow more spontaneous creativity to come through. You have more time to "play" with your images and so once you start putting something together you don't feel like you've spent so much time that you have to keep it the way it is. (i.e. if it takes 20-30 minutes to do something in CS2, chances are, you won't want to try more than one or two ideas - but if it takes 2-3 minutes in Fotofusion, you might try 10 different ideas)
Here are some other threads where Fotofusion has been discussed and where I've shown a few examples of my own playing with it...

I'm also a programmer and that could be the reason for so many straight lines.... i love photography but it seems like i need the straight lines and everything to be neat and in it own spot. is Fotofusion something i'd need to buy or is there a way to try it for free. |

On your second comp, you might try a subtle drop shadow behind each of the 3 small pictures. It will give depth and and add interest. Also, be careful of cloning artifacts which are visible where you've extended the background.

Fotofusion is downloadable right from the website. Try it out, buy it if you feel it will save you time. I can almost guarantee you'll buy it if you try it. :-)
Cost is pretty reasonable... the Standard version is $39.95. You'll probably want the Pro version for $89.95, but even that is pretty cheap considering the amount of time it will save you.
