I'll be in the Seattle area on the 21st until the 24th of April. I was thinking of either staying in Seattle or driving north to see the Skagit Tulip Festival.
It would be great to meet up with fellow DPCers out there. Achoo seems interested eventhough he lives 3 hours away.
Cheers,
Rikki

If you fly, grab a shot of SeaTac while you're in the airport...

Seattle from the Bainbridge Ferry taken very recently. What a day!!
Don't know if I will be in the Seattle area or not during your visit but should you venture over here in the Sequim/Port Angeles area, would love to buy you a beer. I'm in the book as Richard Wilhelm. |

Hey guys! So far it's Achoo and I meeting up in Seattle the morning of the 22nd and driving north to Skagit ;) As Bear has mentioned, this would make for a great photo op and a great chance to meet other fellow DPCers in the northwest ;)
Any others? |

I have plans to go with a friend on the 15th, but you never know what might change.
Rikki, I also considered inviting you to stay with us, but we have vague plans for that weekend so I'm not sure yet if I can.
Could you handle a short notice invitation if it should work out? |

Rikki, I understood about the 22nd. I meant that I'd like to come with you guys on the 22nd so I can look over your shoulders and learn something, but I already have plans to go up there on the 15th :-(
Should things change, perhaps you'll let me tag along on the 22nd.
Re staying with us: sure, have a raincheck - it might work out next time you're up here. |

You know, I've lived in the Seattle area for 19 years, and I've never been to the Skagit Tulip Festival? Kind of sad. The thought of meeting some of the DPC greats is tempting, but I'll probably be bogged down with kid-type activities as usual. I'll look forward to seeing some of the pics you come away with, though. |

I dragged the wife & kids to the tulip festival in 1999. We went, took some pics and putzed around for a couple hours. Then we got stuck in the traffic coming home. It's about 10 miles from the tulip fields to the freeway I think and all residential backroads. 5MPH all the way! NO WAY OUT either! It was a bit of a nightmare! I hope things have improved, but needless to say, I couldn't pay the kids to go again. LOL Hopefully things have gotten better or my timing was just bad.
Pencil me in for now - I will firm up in a week (my schedule, I mean.)
I'll PM Frank (caba) and see if he wants in. If I can't make it, maybe we can still meet up downtown for a few hours one of the days you're in town.
Here's some pics from my Kodak DC-40 (1999):

I'm excited to meet you guys. I'll be coming up from Vancouver and spending the night before at my parents house. I've actually never been to the Tulip festival either but have seen pictures before.
Should be a good time. |

Want to do some night shooting downtown? I'm game, either Fri or Sat nights. I can't make it up to the tulips, but I do know some great places downtown. PM me and we'll hook up. |

I bet we could shoot in the morning and make it back for dinner and some evening shots.
BTW Rikki, it's the Skagit Valley or Skagit County, not Skagit. There is no such city. The tulips are near Mt. Vernon (the city).
I'd be up for this. |

Tuliptown is $4 to get in, better is Roozengaarde and only $2 entry. Tuliptown parking lot has a lot of cool rusting antiques to shoot, so you you don't need to go in, just check out the lot. There is another field just north of tulip town on the east side of Best street that has an old bus parked in the middle of the field, so look for that, that one is free unless you go up the drive way to the house, you may be able to park on the side of the road for that one. If you have rubber boots, bring them, there is no shortage of mud in the fields.
Also on Fir island road there is a Snow gueese reserve to check out.
See you guys at Kerry park on Queen Anne hill at about 7:30, Saturday. Just drive up Queen Anne Ave, turn left on Highland drive and you can't miss it. Ken will be picking me up, so see you guys then. |
