HI...recently I was taking pictures in the night using D50 & 70-300 tamron lens with long exposure. I see that the picture is not sharp..looks like there was camera shake even though I used remote !! how to avoid this?

The thing with long exposures is that even if you aren't touching the camera, wind is. The longer the exposure the more pronounced the movement.

Stars, cars and trees move. Can't tell from your shot if the buildings are blurred? Some people put a sandbag on their tripod to stabilize it.

While this is true for a constant movement of the camera or subject or both, a longer exposure where the movement is localize and short lived, the image will be tack sharp - even though there 'was' minimal movement over a fraction of the exposure.
