I would like to propose that people have the ability to request an indepth critique of their photo after the challenge is over, instead of at the point of submitting a photo to the challenge. This is the more natural progression of when and why people would want an indepth critique. If that weren't true, then we wouldn't see all those threads in the forums by people wanting to know why their photo scored so low.
If you submit a photo that does great, chances are you won't need a critique. If you submit a photo that does less than great, but you received enough comments to explain why, then you probably don't need a critique. But if your expectations are not met and you don't know why, that's the time when you really need a critique.
It seems like the biggest potential issue with this suggestion is that the number of critique requests would go up if we implement this change. It might work out this way, but not only we would no longer have critique requests from people who realize after the competition that they don't actually need them, but we would also be serving the exact people who would benefit most from this service.
Thoughts?

That makes a LOT of sense!
The comments alone often answer the question of what is good or bad about a photo, and if THAT isn't enough, then ask for a critique.
Since the critique club is always struggling to keep up, I'd even go as far as wording the request in some way that means to only ask if you really can't figure out the answers from the comments you already have. |
