...Photos!!!!! All my life I wanted to catch lightning in action. Tonight over the Chesapeake Bay was the most awsome display of lightning I've seen in a long time. I had both cameras going, one @ 30sec and the other @ 60sec. Had to share some of them. They are straight from the camera so....and after an attempt on the deck..it was safer to take these from inside thru a rain spotted window.!! :O)

All look great. I hope you don't mind but I want to try some edit on this one. I really shows how far a lightening bolt can travel.

Set your lens to MF, then adjust the focus to infinity on your focusing ring. If you don't have a focusing ring, just turn the focus in a bright lit area as if your trying to focus on something very far away. |

I am totally envious. While driving to KY friday night I had the pleasure of watching lighting light up the night sky and although I stopped 3 different times I did not get a good shot...could be the fact that the wind was blowing like crazy and shaking everything around. When I finally got to where the storm was (Louisville) the lightning let up and was too random to get a shot of it. Then Sunday night back here in Chicago I stopped to try and get some with the Sears tower in it since the tower has it's yellow lights on up top (not sure why)...again no such luck.
Great images and good job.

I'm in Virginia and we had that storm come right over our heads. I took what I *hope* are some interesting pictures of the clouds that were swirling and tumbling about, but I didn't get any lightning.
I'm hoping to get them off the camera and posted (they'll be my first posted here) tomorrow.

Nothing like it. I am a addict of the show 24, and had to turn it off and cut all the lites to get these. "Rush" is definitely the word for it. Awesome one you show here!!

Nice shots, I have yet to get a lightning shot myself, but am still hoping.
Hey, cut the chord on that EVOLT and concentrate on learning the Rebel.

Arg...as I'm still in the process of learning (aren't we all), I made a wonderful mistake. I'd been playing with the settings on my D70 earlier in the week, and had changed ISO Assist to ON.
Yup...everyone of the photos I took of that marvelous storm were all taken at ISO 1600. Which are just noisy as hell. Quite disappointing. :(

Cindy, I'm jealous - nice shots!
We moved to Seattle 4 years ago, and in all that time I've seen lightning only twice, and even that was faint and in the distance. For some reason, Seattle doesn't seem to "do" proper lightning :-(
Back in Brisbane (Oz), we had 4-7 good afternoon storms a week during summer, and I'm starting to miss them. |

It was quite a storm. I was on the phone when it moved in, so I did not see it coming. I was able to take this pic before it completely was over us. I couldn't stay outside and take lightning pics... It moved so fast, I did not have time to switch to a wider angle lens. :-(

This was taken in Seattle (or Redmond).
That's part of what makes it special to me because I agree, you get maybe one lightning storm a year if you are lucky. |

You leave the shutter open and let the lighting come to you... |
