My water entry score was 4.528 with only 1 comment. I am wondering if most thought it didn't meet the challenge or if it is just a bad shot.

hi, well ... it's difficult to see what it is at the first moment and after reading the title it's clearer, but ... the photo need more definition, the center of the tree isnt helping my eye fixes to the tree and does not move around, and the water is totally unrecognizable ...
nevertheless i had scored less in numerous challenges, so this is pretty good score considering the quality of the photo :-)
i could probably write some more but my arms are hurting me from weekends work, sorry :-)
peace,
goran

It was an interesting shot and more out-of-the-box than many. But I agree with gooc, the water looks strange, especially to either side of center, which made it hard to know what I was looking at, at first. Reflecting the tree was a neat idea, but it lacks...impact. The water is just there, the tree is just there. Some dramatic lighting might have helped.
Don't let this get ya' down. You've got some great work in your portfolio, so shrug this one off and hit the next challenge! :D

I gave your shot a 7. From what I've seen of DP Challenges, the typical voter is extremely limited in what s/he appreciates, and disregards entire schools and genres of photography. Your shot's appeal occurs mostly on an abstract level, whereas the DPC voter wants highly focused representation. The voters are actually highly reminiscent of the French Salon at the time of the Impressionists, preferring representation over expression, and rewarding skill and discipline within narrow bounds of tradition while punishing innovation (even decades-old innovation!) and irreverence.
That's just the way it is, kemosabe. |

Thank you to all who have commented so far. I think this is one of those shots that look better to me because I know the context. It was a small puddle of rain water on a frosted glass top table. More comments will be welcome! |

Off-topic (sorry) This has got the be the best candy coated, kick the voter in the teeth approach that I have seen yet. I totally love it, and totally agree 100%.
Back on topic: Chaimelle, for me this wasn't quite abstract enough and too close a crop to really give a feel for the shot. Perhaps if you backed up a bit and gave a little more detail around the puddle people would have picked up on the water theme. I possibly would have tried different angles to better frame the (or find a more interesting) subject.

The kick's in the truth. The teeth were in the way of it. The language is reserved perhaps, mais sans des bonbons. |

And this, of course, is about what we'd expect from a popular photography site with a wide diversity of culture, background, and education represented amongst its membership, eh?
Robt.

Diversity is a good thing, but I view any observation stemming the homogenization of it as a critical ingredient to preserve it.
