I've been to Denver -- it's pretty big. Out of respect for this being a worldwide event, I think it should happen in a major metropolitan area where economical transportation and accomodations for the most people is available. Transportation to Denver is just going to be harder and more expensive than travel to NY/NJ, Washington DC, LA, San Francisco, London, Chicago, etc.

Of course there would be field trips (hopefully organized by topic/interest), but the primary purpose of this should be the meetings ... otherwise, I don't see the point of this vs. the current method of organizing regional GTGs.

:)

Organizing some photo tours, similar to these is another possibility for travel opportunities.

Location Location Location

Might be selfish cause I live here, by why not South East Queensland, Australia.

Hervery Bay area, there is Fraser Island, world heritage listed and the largest sand island in the world, Rainforest hinterlands, Old Gold Mines, Whale watching (Annually), Dolphin watching and feeding all sorts of things especially natural sights within a hour or so.

Yeah, but the flight back from Iceland to NY might be $8,000 ... : )

but can you see moose, elk, mountain goats, aspens, and mountains in NYC?

I think you have more chance of seeing those things in NY rather than Iceland... I think the mountains is the only thing we have.. and they are rather small compared to the mountains in America ;)

I just looked at pricing on icelandair.com and return ticket NY-Reykjavik-NY is 549.43 USD including taxes.

Orlando Octoberish, when it cools down a bit and before it gets cool out... Plenty of convention centers in the area, Lots of reasonable motels a variety of tourist destinations, you even have some beautiful beach areas and Key West is only 7 hours drive... ;)

I will attend if it's held in the US. I would also volunteer to help coordinate.

Another vote for Denver, here :)

That is only if Guam is not an option...LOL
04/03/2006 09:06:49 AM · #99
Well, my vote is for the cape - not only because thats way to easy for me - but because I can help.

I was an event coordinator in a previous life (uh, three big corportate jobs ago) and was good at it - so I'd happily lend up my services to D&L in planning it if it were nearby now that life is settling in and I'm more together with the biz on its own....

I'l even get over the shy thing for you all. :P (though, thats a lot easier to do if I have a "job" to do, so its a totally selfish reason to offer this and I admit that openly. lol)

( PS Bear - you have a PM coming your way, since I'll be down in your neck of the woods this week.....)
