That was a quick first shot (without leaving my desk)... more to come.

I've wanting to get one of those.
03/31/2006 03:18:01 PM · #3
I keep wanting to get one of those, but I keep convincing myself that if I really wanted to do something like that, I could do it in photoshop. (but I never do)

What I was thinking of using it for was at a wedding or reception to creatively single out individuals in the crowd. Someday maybe....

Everyone should try on of these. They're not very expensive and really fun to play with. Weird at first though, with the bellows.

Special thanks to Roadrunner for mine. He won it at BetterPhoto, but already had one, so I sent him a few dinero and he had Lensbabies ship it directly to me! :D Thanks, Kel!

LensBaby shots are not generally recieved well here at DPC.

But....
I LOVE this thing.

Why can't I add it as a lens? It IS a lens.... anyone?

Edit that - I found it :P

so idnic,
since we won't know until after voting who wins first round
in the MS Photo Challenge comp., what say we agree to shoot
LensBaby shots for round 2?

Might be going head to head, might not. :)

Having just goofed with it in the studio for a while, I'd say heck yeah, I'll go for that! :)

Uhmmmm how about winner picks the lens from the losers list that must be used for the next shot. That way not tooooo much of a handicap. Hopefull! lol

Makes no difference, it's still handicapping ya against your next oppo if that ain't shanks. If it IS shanks, knock yourself silly. But you won't KNOW until after the next entry is in, see?

yeah, kind of an iffy proposition.

Maybe we just wait until after the competition is over.
Or,
take it on in a challenge that's not part of League of Death or MS.

I know I'm NOT gonna use it for Textures.

I have looked at these things several times and tried to decide whether or not to buy one... is yours the 2.0 version? I think they are about $200 or so if i'm not mistaken...

I'm jealous. I always wanted one of those! My goal at Betterphoto is to win one! One of these days.

By the way, Roadrunner is a "she"!

Sorry, just saw this. Yes, I have the 2.0. Only have $135 in it cause I got a bargain. (Thanks again, Kel)

Been playing with it some more today (but can't show ya yet) and I'm really digging it.

I played with Di's lensbaby for two minutes and have been pining for my own since.

Hmmmm - that really doesn't sound right if taken out of context, but you know what I mean.

I'm looking for a Lexi-Meets-Lensbaby shot! C'mon - appease the masses!:)

Edit to try Inglish

For Lexi's fans:

Still practicing getting the "sweet spot" where I want it. Here you can see I missed her eyes and focused more on the back of her neck lol

That's probably the trick and a half - I probably shake too much to be an effective lensbaby user.

Thank you for the appeasement Ms Cindi.

Is it necessary to have a lens baby to achieve this effect?
Couldn't the exact same thing be done in PS with a radial blur or some such thing? (as you can tell I'm no PS expert)

I'm not trying to be smart or mean, I'm seriously wondering about it.

I guess using a lensbaby would be legal for basic editing, whereas faking it wouldn't be, right?

See, that's what keeps me from buying one. I keep telling myself I'll just save the money and do it in photoshop. But then, I *never* do.

I bet that if I actually had the lens, I would go crazy with it. It looks like using it could really spark some creative juices.

So I take it that yes, it could be done in PS?
I'm sure that USING one of those lensbabies is a lot of fun, but then you don't want too many of your photos to have that look, right?

If I could get one for 10 bucks, I'd go for it, too, but somehow I don't think I'd get enough use out of it to justify $200 or thereabouts.

Perhaps we should all get together and timeshare extra goodies like lensbabies and expensive weird filters :-)

I actually rent some of the lenses that I use. Like a 14mm L lens that I used two weeks ago at a wedding. I loved that lens. But I don't have $2000 sitting around.

I haven't found anyone renting out lensbabies though.... maybe you're right, we could start a timeshare. :-)
