...what should we be paying for this kind of stuff?
I'm having an 8x12 mounted (foamcore) and matted to be entered into the fair. The only peeps near me that do it is Aaron Bros, they are hitting me for 30 bucks.
Am I being squeezed? It's for the fair so I figured I'd better let someone else do it.

ED: failed to mention that it is a 16x20 board and matte

At local lab Tempe Camera my cost is (11x14 dry mounted) 10.50-16.50 depending on thickness & quality.
(edit- that is mounting only, not the matte)

It sounds to me that more than just your photos are getting matted and mounted.
That's a bit steep.

I work in a framing shop and that price is not out of the ordinary. The mat board you chose could vary in price from about $8 to about $40 depending on the type of board and the dry mounting could be around $10 by itself.

Former framer too...ditto what jmsetzler said. Also keep in mind that you're not paying them cost...the people that do it need to get paid, too. |

For the fair, I'd say it's worth it to have it professionally done, and Aaron Bros. does nice work (at least the one by me). I checked Mpix on an 8x12 and their price for mounting an ordered print is only $3.50, but then find and buy your own matting and put it together, it's a big hassle to save a little bit. Good luck at the fair. |

Do you need to mount a photo that's going to be in a frame? |
