Help please !
When I edit an image in PSP 5.0 (don't suggest other software, this is what I have, and with a $0 budget, I cannot upgrade right now), but when I view them elsewhere or upload them, they are VERY dark.
It's not just when uploaded, even when I just open the folder on my computer and view the thumbnails, they are dark compared to when I open that same image in PSP.
Any suggestions ? I think this issue is definately NOT helping my challenge entries right now.

You may need to change PSP to use the Adobe sRGB colorspace. I don't know how to do that in PSP though...

Yeah maybe a setting got Borked. In preferences you might be able to reset all the settings to deault. Hard to say what could be causing it. Has it always done that? Or just recently? You might be able to try the GIMP. It's free and can edit decently. But you would be able to see if it PSP 5 or some other problem.

It just started - or maybe I just noticed, but I've been using PSP for a few years now without issues, so I think I'd have seen this very glaring difference before now.

Okay - it *is* PSP - the images look horribly dark in PhotoImpact too.

Make sure all your editing programs (including Windows Picture and Fax viewer if you use it) are using the same color profile.
If you don't calibrate your monitor then PS is probably using the standard one...set the others to that same profile.
To set Windows (XP) to a Color profile:
Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Display
On the Setting tab click the Advanced button.
On the Color Management tab, choose the same Color Profile that PS is using...
...default is sRGB Colorspace (aka) sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (or something like that).
PSP probably has it's own place to set the color profile, usually under preferences or the likes.
ED: After a reread (it is early in the morn here) you do not have PS but the same applies to Photo Impact and PSP, if they both use different Color Profiles than they will look different.

Ding ding ! We have a winner folks !
The default colour management on my system was NOT the sRGB profile. Once I added that as the default and set PSP to use it in the colour management in thr program, it all matched up.
Horribly so - my poor challenge photos :( Ah well, I'll just sit back and try to convince myself that a wonky monitor is the cause of my low scores.
Thank you awpollard !
