Solid state will be faster, more reliable, and cost more in general. |

Try Tiger Direct.ca 2GB Ultra 2 for $120/cdn or standard speed 2GB for $101.

Honestly guys, I recommend the solid state stuff...the micro drives are prone to fail, just like my first super expensive 1GB, that lasted all of 12 months. I got it for a 'bargain' of $300 with my D70 when the D70 came out and with all of the changes and travel and stuff I do, it died and that was it. I now have several 1GB SanDisks and they will last me a long time.
I limit mine to 1 GB, possible 2GB at the most, because if something ever goes wrong, you haven't lost incredible amounts of work...

I have a stand alone 40GB hard drive and 2--1GB compact Flash Cards so that is all I need.

I have (all sandisk) a 1gb CF, 2x512 CF & 2x 1gb SD cards and a 20gb Flashtrax. At home memory is no issue an I'll often record JPEG and RAW on different cards (cos I can) but when away I'll fill up a card, copy it to the Flashtrax and only format a card when I've used up all the memory.

Ditto. That is all I have been using. I've been able to shoot all day long without worry of running out of cards because I just swap them through my Epson P2000.
However, last weekend I ran into a problem.
We were at a Lacrosse tournament and there were 3 shooters and one lady back at the tent taking care of 3 viewing stations, questions, sales AND copying our cards as we'd fill them up. Trouble was ... she couldn't keep up with 3 shooters with all the other work she was having to do so sometimes I had to wait due to my limit of only having two cards. (i.e. if I filled up the 2nd before she was done with the first, I had to wait)
So... I bought three 1G cards last week for $37 a piece. I figure that way I'm set for a really long time to come. :-)

| That Kingston is a great deal Tom- much cheaper and about 3X faster than a standard Sandisk card (although the Ultra II and Extreme models are faster still). |

| I used a 2 gb micro drive and now use the 4gb micodrive. I also have a couple solid state 1 Gb. I'm happy with the micodrive. I've talked with the Hitachi factory about them and they have had no real issues. I do imagine that if it is dropped hard or washed it would cause trouble. I wouldn't be too scared of either media |

I just bought a 4Gb Sandisk Extreme III for £120 plus shipping from Chinese eBay trader, excellent deal.

My 1GB Microdrive that died was a Hitachi and cost me $300 back in the day. There's absolutely nothing that can be done with it now. I travel a bit, and I am sure that my bag gets a few knocks, so I need cards that will last. I wouldn't recommend a microdrive to people who travel with their gear. I keep my gear with me at all times, but obviously in a travel arrangement, overhead cabins in planes and picking up and putting down luggage is not a great environment for microdrives...that's my 2 cents worth

Did you call Hitachi? I dropped one real bad, a 2 gb and they were so very friendly in fact they offered and sent me a 4Gb to replace it. It was well out of warantee. My work with them is they have outstanding customer service. |

| I have 2 4GB Hitachi microdrives, used them for close to 2 years now. No problems whatsoever, although if you are shooting sports you'd be better off getting the faster cards like the Extreme III or Ultra II's. |
