This is becoming my favorite lens, much to my Tamron 28-75's dismay. I love this thing!! :)

I have to agree with you. My tamron is nice and all but the tokina gives such an awesome perspective of things. It is definetly my favorite.

I just ordered mine about three hours ago! What a coincidence. I am really looking forward to getting it. Got a great deal at $389.00 so I opted for UPS 2 day delivery. I guess that means Saturday if I'm lucky, but probably on Monday.

A true wide is the next item on my wish list, and the Tokina is the front runner right now. Until then, I'll live vicariously through you, so keep sharing!

I have a Nikkor 12-24 that gets much more "love" than my Tamron 28-75 - at least outdoors. It's such a fun range to shoot in.

How straight are your lines out of camera, is the lens truly rectilinear? Do you have to do major straightening at 12mm? I'd be interested to see a "straight from camera" shot at 12mm.

Just a sec and I'll upload a couple full size shots, unedited...one is 12mm and one is 13mm so you can see what they look like straight from the cam. :)

A nickel a gallon???!! What is this world coming to? ;-)

WOW! Great stuff, Laurie! About $400 huh? Hmmmmmm...

OK, here's a 100% crop of the middle of the image, just FYI

These two are straight off the CF card, no editing...first is at 13mm and the 2nd is at 12mm.

Here's a couple that I shot at 12mm, uncorrected. I'm a big fan of the new Photoshop CS2 Lens Correction filter to try to straighten these out. I'm not very good at it yet, but the clients seem to like straight lines (at least the architecture clients that I shoot for).

Thanks so much for posting these Laurie! I've been trying to decide between this one, the Sigma, and the Canon... and you've helped me to decide on this one. Those look really nice. Robert's shots look great with his Canon too, but I figure the price difference from that one will put me about halfway towards a new macro lens. B+H, here I come!

Provide a link, please, for where you bought this for $389... that is a smokin' deal!

Here you go:

Every other place that I shopped for this on the web did not have this in stock. I found it in stock here (and verified it on the phone) and found that it was the best price around.

I thought this was too good to be true, ie. not really in stock or something like that. They called me yesterday, and I said "I was expecting this call. Don't tell me that you don't have it in stock even after I call to confirm it was." They were simply calling me to verify my order. Oh yeah, and to sell me some filters along with it, which I did buy also.

Additional filters: 77mm circular polarizer, UV, and something to compensate for flourescent light. $100 instant rebate brought this filter package down to about $89.00.

I got the notification for shipping and the UPS tracking number. UPS website says it will be here on Monday (on time).

I can hardly wait.

Pretty typical routine :) Knock down the price on a high end item, then make accessories fairly expensive but offer a rebate. That way they have high "retail volume" numbers to cook the "gross profit" numbers (even though "net profit" may decrease due to the "expense" of the rebate), the credit card company gets a chance to hit you for some interest, and the instant rebate makes you feel like you've saved $100 when actually you spent $89 more than you meant to... :)

In case that statement above didn't make sense, rebates show up on the accounting books differently than price decreases do, and it also satisfies the manufacturer by not decreasing the "street price" of their item. It also allows a retailer to sell WAY below the recommended retail value without incurring the wrath of wholesale laws, etc.

It does appear to be a really great lens. I wish I had one!

I'm just jealous.

That is a great price, however, I noticed it is for an "import" model and includes only a 90 day labor/ 1 year parts warranty, and with that you would probably have to ship it overseas somewhere. It should come with a 3 year warranty. I would get a Mack warranty on it for $25 and that covers you for 7 years. -I don't mean to rain on a parade here, just trying to help. I'll echo Nards, I'm jealous as well! I'll have one in the next week or so.
