is there anyway to withdraw from a current challenge? I don't have internet at home, and I saved for web on a cd and went to a friends house. The problem is that i forgot DPchallenge's file size requirements and saved my education entry at 28KB, it looks embarrassing. |

i believe the only way you can have it withdrawn is to request it to be DQ'd which you dont really want to do. If you need to i would go to the Help page and send the SC a ticket, thats the best way to get an answer. |

If it makes you feel any better, I am not voting down based on size? As long as I can see what is in the photo, I am cool with it. :) |

Don't self-DQ. Chalk it up as a mistake that you can compare your first ribbon too ;-)
It's just a virtual score in a virtual world.

it looks aweful, its a bit blurry, and there is digital noise all over. I can assure you the original is not blurry and it was taken at 100 iso, so it shouldn't be noisy. |

Thanks Fotomann (wow wasn't sure if I'd very say that, lol), seriously, that is good advice for everyone who is down on their picture in the first 24 hour of voting. I was really wishing I hadn't entered footwear, okay I am still really wishing I hadn't, it's looking to be my personal worst. I'll just keep chanting "virtual" today, thanks. |

im not down on my photo. it is a nice photo, but saved at 28KB. it is just low res and looks bad. i already got a comment on being blurry. my stupid mistake for entering, but i hadn't entered in a while. |

I get ya, your issue is more of a technical mistake rather than poor judgement of subject or lighting (see mine later, lol). I just thought Fotomann's comment applied across the board when it comes to wanting to gracefully exit a challenge.
So, is your image still in the range of 640 pixel size or is it miniaturized and blurry because of the 28K error? |

its 640 pixel, but the file size is 28K so it saves at low quality. The bokeh is pixelated and the sharpness is lost, and the contrast is bad. other than that its fine. |

Everyone needs a brown ribbon in their collection - Even the DPC great like Kiwiness and jjbejuin have them. |

To be sure one has less of a chance of winning if you slip at the starting gate.... Unless you violated a rule - I'd vote no to this vanity request. |

Huh? Worst kiwiness ever did was 67% mark from what I see on his profile page. |

request a DQ on your own image and advise the site council of why you want to remove your entry. You can "self-DQ" yourself for any reason without any penalty if you have not had a DQ in the last 25 challenges. If you request a self-dq and later on, you get another DQ in less than 25 challenges, you will face a one week suspension from entering challenges.

i did it, i requested a dq on myself. I had 5 comments which all said the same thing. they all commented on the blurryness and the poor image quality. I will post the original and the challenge entry when done and you guys can see what I was talking about. Next week I will enter a good one. |

I'm sure I know the one you mean. I don't fault you for doing the self-DQ; if I'd pulled that bad a tachnical blooper I might have requested one myself. I wouldn't do it for a just-plain-lousy picture (and I've entered plenty of those) but this is like a technical glitch, in that the picture is BETTER than what got posted accidentally.

also, if you know what pic it was, you will notice that it fits the challenge in a humerous/sarcastic way. That with the technical screw up makes for some pretty low scores and plain stupid comments.

Bear,
Which photo do you think it is? |

No one can fault you for making a legitimate request for self dq - submitted according to site rules. imo - I see this as a bad rule. A loop hole and cover up. It creates a cast of corruptibility - a detriment to site integrity. It favors better photographers, and is a method of manipulating a challenge for strictly vanity reasons. Challenge rules and legal disputes are fair game for removing a submission, but a filter to remove a foto just because you want to...... seems to be less of a challenge. |

While I agree with your general feelings about the rule, I don't see how an opportunity available to everyone favors better photographers? |

this isn't an issue of vanity, the photo in the challenge doesn't look like the photo I took because of an error when I saved for web. It looks like I took it with a 2MP digi camera, the bokeh is aweful, the colors don't blend properly, its blurry etc... I didn't buy a 1K digital SLR to put crap up. If my photo was saved at 120KB we wouldn't be having this discussion, but it was saved at 28KB, that is quite a difference.
Next tuesday, I will post my "challenge entry" along with the original saved properly, you can all judge me then.
By the way, how does this rule favor better photographers? Why does everyone care if I DQ myself, its one less photo you have to write "blurry, doesn't meet challenge" |

.................
......... Certianly it is fair by current rule that everyone can request a dq, for any reason. Those with less ability may believe that just plain confidence in themselves to ride-out any further penality may prevail. However the option is weighted. I percieve "better photographers" (a more apt description might be more "experienced photographers") would have an advantage - to make this decision with confidence tested on the basis of ability, past performance, knowledge of the site and technical rules and ribbons - |

I don't see how DQ's would give anyone an advantage over anyone else. If you DQ yourself, youre out of the challenge, how is that an advantage?
