I dont mind.
The time isn't really that important as long as the idea sees light, I guess. |

Richard, we don't KNOW what works, this is a proposal for a sort of challenge DPC has never held before.

I think it would just create some super egos which is never a good idea for any community. Also, I think there are a lot of people who would feel they are not good enough for a challenge such as this and would not enter believing they did not have a chance and would feel 'left out.' Not a good way to make someone feel welcome in the group. |
On the flip side, I could see this as introducing more reward and giving more people the opportunity to feel like ribbon winners.
Suppose you typically languish in the bottom 150 of any given challenge and you currently don't aspire to win a ribbon because you are just learning. Then making the first 100 cut is a big achievement - you get a reward of entering a new challenge, there's a sense of accomplishment and winning even though it isn't the 'ultimate' prize of winning a ribbon. The knock-out challenge staggers the levels of achievement that the current first past the post scheme can't even begin to approach. 100 new winners in the first week of any new knock-out challenge. 30 new winners in the next week. |

I love the idea personally. I would participate, however what are your thoughts on voters voting down the obviously good photos to beef their own scores?
You wouldnt believe the amounts of super low scores I get on photos that are obviously not 1 or 2 worthy. Just makes you wonder about fair play especially when voters know that their vote could make or break someone.
What happened to ethics man? |

If they are of a mind to do that, they are doing it anyway; nothing new there. By the time we make it to the final phases, there won't be enough voters actually ENTERED in the challenge to make a significant statistical difference anyway. What's 10 bad scores against 200 fair votes?

Too frequent, I think.
Once a year would be nice :) |
