I think it would be fun to have average % in the profile stats. What do you think?

kiwiness is in the 92nd percentile.
I'm in the 42nd percentile.

Just copy your challenge results into excel and take the average of the percentages. Post them here if you want.

Even though I know some might think it is not good to "put one photographer above another", DPC is a challenge site and I think it would be motivating to have a ranking list based on percentages earned during challenges. 15 minimum entered or something like that.

47% for me...it feels a lot lower, though.

46% for me!

56% for me and steadily on the rise (I hope)... :-)

One last suggestion. We could have ‘life-time stats’ meaning total average of all of one’s entries. (With a 40 challenge entry minimum and using only the 100 most recentâ€Â¦wouldn’t want to punish people for starting of as beginners), as well as an annual ladder based on a minimum 10 entries.) This would keep people from creating new profiles to just get high stats as well as encourage people to enter more challenges.

That would be a great stat to have....and lose that silly threads killed stat while they're at it.

You are right, we did have a similar thought - although mine would be basically a site reference (single point destination) containing data for all photographers (registered and member status) on DPChallenge.

Photographer stats at DPChallenge level

Thanks for the heads-up. ;^)

I like this idea, or some variation of it. In our game-playing site (www,eliters.org) we have Lifetime Stats and Quarterly Stats, allowing those who started out as beginners to measure their progress against the experts over any given period of time. It was a proposal that met with much resistance in the beginning and is universally accepted as a good thing now.

Look at a sample page, for the Spades league: Note how you can toggle at the top between current stats (quarterly) and to-date stats (lifetime), and note how each category can be used to sort the stats in a different way; you can see who has the most games played, in descending or ascending order), do the same with ratings, tournaments entered, tournaments won, any of the categories. It's a cool feature.

98%

I expect that to improve though.

*ahem*

(I actually expect it to be cut in half by next Tuesday)

Great forum and good idea ...

But I wanna be Devil's Advocate here: If I'm understanding this correctly, this statistic would further bludgeon someone for having a single non-popular photograph or several low-scoring images ... Say someone that's just learning. The statistic would make mattmac tops ... and someone like me middle-bottoms! Seems to me that this might deter more people from entering.

I guess the real question is ---DOES this make people want to submit more photos?! --- and Do we want people to submit more photos?!

I'm thinking of an alternative statistic, like a "Black Sheep" or "Sleeper" category which draws attention to photos or photographers that didn't score well but are interesting or different. We all know that the top 3 are not always OUR choice for top 3 ...

Or perhaps a way to score non-competition images that people have posted ... (making me, once again feel less than special :) ...

I don't really have a problem with the average % idea ... actually I love new ideas on this site because it is by far my favorite web-site and I don't think this idea would hurt it.

Well, I am encouraged when I see myself improve, so as long as my numbers are going slowly up, I'm happy. I can see your point of view though. And yes, we want people to submit more photos.

We can get to the point where we have too many stats and features in that it is hard and confusing to navigate. I think the favorite function fulfills that purpose. I always try to reward images I like with a favorite even if it doesn't score well. To me, a favorite is more valuable than a high score.

I'm gonna go thumbs-up on the Average % ...
My reason for being devil's advocate was to be more convinced.
I do wonder if it will affect the number of submissions, however.

I also agree about the Favorites ... But I have more favorites than ribbons :)
But I'm still not a Master ... I love the idea of be a "Master" ... this might be because I was sooo close! ...

When was the last Master challenge?
Am I not supposed to know??? :0

rambling ... should be working ;)

select a blank cell

Then go to the fancy math symbol that looks like an E.
Click average
Select all the cells that have your percentages
hit enter.

Ok. They need to hurry up and add this stat to our profile page. 126 challenge entries. Any volunteers to plug that into MS Excel? ;^)
