I drove by a serious accident this morning, I was there about 5 minutes after the police first got there so I stopped to take some pictures, I noticed that the biggest newspaper did not have a photographer there so I contacted the newspaper to see if they wanted my pictures, and they said yes :)
so hopefully I will get published tomorrow if I'm lucky...
the pictures can be found here
they are very small so other newspapers can't use them, as this is still news..
I think I'm the first to publish pictures from this accident.
the driver of the car is seriously injured but not considered critical.
the other "car" is the big white bus.

I took some pictures of a lifeboat rescue this weekend, I've offered them to the local newspaper (weekly) so hoefully they'll want to use some of them.

Just curious... who did you contact at the newpaper? Editor, photo editor, etc.?
And congrats on getting published. |

Spot news is fun to find :)
Just some tips... when you shoot something like this, there are a couple things you need to do if you want to get them published. First of all, you need the names of the people in the pictures. My local paper won't run photos that include people like these without their names. Secondly, always shoot a couple wide angle views of the entire scene. Sometimes insurance companies will pay you for them :)

update.. I did get published..
published
online newspaper
jmsetzler: I couldn't get the names of the emergency crew as they were to busy saving the driver, and I was not about to squeeze in to ask the driver...
I was just passing by and I only had my 100mm f2.8 macro lens with me, so I had to use sneeker zoom ;)
the fire departement had a photographer there to take pictures of the scene for their reports and insurances.
edit: I got published in Morgunblaðið as well, the other big newspaper here in Iceland. and they did give me credit for my image, so I'll be sending them images again if I'm lucky and get to the scene before their photographers :)

Congrats, If you want to get into this I would recommend you get yourself a good scanner (if their legal) I bought a Uniden Trunk Tracker and it has paid off 10 times what I've paid for it. So far everything I respond to has been published. Good luck and be safe and have fun. |
