I'm not one to make excuses but.........I will anyway.
If you take 2 of the best one day batsmen (Ponting & Symonds) in the world out of your side you will struggle against anyone.
Besides you guys played excellent and we should have some great test matches coming up. |

LOL - Must agree with you on that one. Heard about all that racist crap down under in the VB series.
The Aussies came back strong on Sunday though. Ponting had a good knock. Lee also got a couple of wickets. Pity about Gibbs and Dippenaar's wickets. Will nail them in Durban though. I think I will go watch the Durban game - Live about 170kilometers from Durban.

Bah - excuses. We were short of Ntini, Kallis and Nel in the VB series. It's just a turn of fate. Good recovery on Sunday by you guys though.

All the racist crap was simply not true. I have friends who were at the Perth match where it all started and they told me it was just a few South African ex pats yelling out in afrikana, not many aussies know afrikana.
Even your players said the tuants were in afrikana.
Perth has a huge base of ex South Africans and I believe some still hold long held beliefs. |

Denial, my friend - not attractive. None of it was attractive. The South African players would not have made this up - we are as a whole nation extremely sensitive to the subject. I dare say some expats were involved in the taunting, but it doesn't change the damning point that this was not an isolated incident. Indian, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and West Indies all report racial abuse when they tour Australia. Don't get defensive though - we all know it's a very small minority.
I has the fortune to attend the Melbourne and Sydney tests. Can't say I heard any racial abuse at either test.

By the way - ITS AFRIKAANS not Afrikana. You will never get away from the Racist thing - I can promise you that the same will happen here.
Funny thing now that you mention the South Africans in Perth; Friend of mine went to Perth for interviews. He had 3 interviews, two of which was in Afrikaans. Would love to move to Down Under - simply due to their passion for sport.

| I'm not defending Perth crowds but I'm sure this sort of thing happens to a certain degree no matter which team you are and where you travel. There will always be those in the crowd who take things a little too far unfortunately. |

Totally agree - even on the field by the players you get it. I played a club game a while back. Had a couple of runs on the board - busy taking the game away from fielding side. Bowler comes up to me asks if I have naked photos of my wife - When I replied "NO" he asked me if I would like some. Needless to say that I dispatched his next delivery over his head for a massive 6.

I'm not in denial and yes I do get defensive because it is wrong to turn isolated incidents into generalised statement we too are sensitive to racial slurs. You can read it here the slurs were in Afrikaans and Perth has a huge ex South African population as well many Zimbabweans.
Some of these expats have been here a long time, they were not prepared for the rightful changes your country took so they moved and still hold a lot of resentment. Believe me I have seen it and spoken with people of this nature. Yes it may have been some drunken aussies but I find that unlikely the particular terms used would not be known by Australians.
I'm just dissapointed that we can be labelled racist because of a few derogative remarks made by unknown members of a crowd it has really spoilt a great cricket series and shouldn't be the prime focus of the summers cricket.
On another note cricket is really a tame sport compared to some other international games, our soccer (football) team were spat on pushed and shoved and threatened to be killed when they arrived in Uruguay for a World Cup qualify match.

All I can say is - MASSIVE. Luckily I am at work - don't have to watch the slaughter of 11 Springboks.

Well... what a runfest! We Aussies were beaten! Congratulations to the Soth Africans for not giving up against unbeatable odds. Just when the Aussies thought they had a win on the board, the springboks believed they could win...and did!
This is not good for us, but great for Cricket.

I had to work so I couldn't watch until pretty late in the game, but I listened to the whole thing on the radio. I still can't believe we won.

You didn't have to see a slaughter of 11 springboks...what you got was a humiliation of 11 Aussies. As the Bible says, pride goes before a fall...

Actually, I'd say quite a few bowlers were humiliated on both sides. I'm not convinced it's a good thing when conditions are so much in favour of the batsmen.

Actually it was on Foxtel.
I smoked half a packet of cigarettes during the SA innings alone.
Great game and congrats to SA.

I realy didn't think South Africa were gonna make it - and to the comment of the wicket favouring the batsmen - that is what Onde Dai Internationals are all about. People wanna see boundaries.

And wickets. People also want to see wickets. Barry Richards and Steve waughs recent comments on the game are too the point. Who is going to want to bowl with the game favouring the batters so much.
Still - love beating the Aussies. I think this is a significant game. Hopefully this will finally lay to rest the goasts of '99 and Hansie. Now the guys knwo they can chase anything. No side will feel safe no matter what target they set. Still need to learn how to defend a total.
This certianly sets WCC 2007 up beautifully. Wish I could make it to the West Indies to follow the team.

All good and well about the wickets, but if we saw 20 wickets on Sunday, the game was over - on the other hand, we saw 900 runs AND we saw wickets.

Ja, it was a captivating game. Still, I hope it remains exceptional. The trend is that games like this will become more and mroe frequent. All the recent rule changes favour batsmen.
Just keeping the thread profile up. I want to make sure every aussie is aware of the result.
