I have an HP 5850 printer that can print borderless photos.
I started noticing that when I print with preview from photoshop using the printer with either 4x6 or 5x7 photo paper and set borderless, the print comes off with a small amount missing from both the top and the bottom.
Any ideas on how I can still get borderless printing without this crop?
HP 5850 color management setup to use photoshop
Photoshop Print with Preview (scale to fit media)
Images are 8x12 @ 292 DPI tif's.
Best regards,
Rick

With 5x7 you'll always have some top/bottom crop of course, if your images are formatted at 8x12, which is 1.5:1 aspect ratio. On 4x6, you're prolly getting a small amount of crop on all sides, since the printer needs to print slightly larger than the paper to ensure that it does not leave a white strip down an edge.

Experiment with adding a border that minimizes the loss of real photo.

Sorry I should have specified that I crop in Photoshop for 5x7 AR. 4x6 I leave normal.
It seems that the borderless option in the printer driver actually magnifies the source so to get it borderless.
If I deselect the borderless paper option in the driver dialog, I get uneditable margins.
I am experimenting with scale to fit media and manually setting the scale factor, but it seems to have minimal affect.

Okay I found some compromises with the settings for a 4x6 Borderless Print
Printer:
HP Deskjet 5850
Borderless Photo 4x6 inch paper
Print w/Preview Settings:
Position
Top: .123 Inches
Left: .06 Inches
Scaled Print Size
Scale: 47.45%
Height: 3.793 inches
Width: 5.693 inches
Page Setup:
No margins
It seems kind of strange that you have to print a 4x6 @ 47%. Seems kind of like you are introducing some variables that may effect quality, namely the printer drive must interpolate the input to scale it back to 4x6.
Any comments?
