OK - I'm in a school tomorrow as a supply (substitute) teacher and they are having a book day. Everyone has got to dress up as a story book character
I don't want to appear a killjoy but I haven't got any ideas what I can dress up as. I have just normal clothes in the wardrobe except for some flimsy large scarves, my husband's arab outfit from our holiday in Egypt ( white robe and head dress). It's 11pm and I must get to bed soon. Any simple clever ideas, people?

Thanks, good for starters but `I really need to be able to tell the children who I am and from which book!
I can go arabic or Indian if I can think of a character and book. I also have jodphurs + riding hat( although my fiqure in tight jodhs is not somewhere I really want to go for school!!!!
Keep the ideas coming folks - I really need inspiration!

Professor Gonagal(sp?/name?) from the Harry Potter series...just add a wand to one of those robe-type outfits. And glasses half-way down the nose.

| You can be the lady in the book There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly, or wear a pony tail and be the lead character in Stephanie's Ponytail, or wear a yellow hat and be Madeline, or a big red bow and be Eloise (or you could be her nanny)...lots of fun! Our storybook parade through town is tomorrow...all the kids from age 3 through 2nd grade are parading as storybook characters. How fun!!!! :) |

Actually if I drew a large shoe-house on card and cut it out, I could pin it to my skirt -umm yes could work but still looking for something better!

What about Miss Trunchbull from Roald Dahl's Matilda or Mrs. Whatsit from Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time? They should be more in line with your target audience.

yellow pants, red shirt, black nose= pooh bear
purple outfit, paint small rope purple and pin to bottom, and pink scarf tied to tail in a bow = eyeore
....still thinking...for the 7/8yo range i think the harry potter idea is a good one
maybe a character from the narndia(sp?) series might work
