The above shot by 'riot' is simply amazing in it's detail...(there is something weird with the Thumbbbbb, but the full size image is working)
Have a look see at the users and images with the 100-400mm:

I like my 100-400...but I'm not as talented as those found in the above link.
edit: it appears the thumbbbb is working now.

Tis an offsite link but I like it ;) Ignore the push/pull knockers, its a stunning lens.

I have no personal experience with it, but those who have it love it. Is it a prime? Nope. Is it a really, really good zooom? Yup. If you have a chance to get it at a good price, I say go for it.
It is a push-pull design, and that puts some off, but again those who own it don't seem to mind that.

Heh, i do love it... it's just so versatile, i find myself using it whenever i need a lens i can depend on. Here are some of the shots i've taken with it that show it off quite well:
The push-pull is excellent, i can never go back to a long twist-zoom again - you can get to exactly the focal length you want at the moment you want, and with the variable-friction ring you can lock it at any zoom. It's a big white that just loves to be handheld too, not too heavy, but not so light it jumps around... with the IS i've had usably sharp shots handheld all the way down to 1/5th of a second (no typo). Worth every penny.

I certainly like mine. No complaints yet. I've yet to put it thru a full test of a summer swim season so far, but that's coming soon! I can't wait!
