I've seen many entries before the challenge that were obviously destined for ribbons. So what? Why on earth should that intimidate anyone? It's not like there's only one ribbon to be had or huge prizes at stake. I still enter and I still give them 10s as warranted. The site is intended to help each of us improve as individuals, and that can't happen if you withdraw at the sight of something better (there's ALWAYS something better). There's really no reason to fear that peeking at an entry might scare an SC member into reconsidering his own entry, but thanks for looking out for us. ;-) |

Actually, Scalvert, that was not my intention either.
My purpose for bringing it up is for those that are new and may have concerns about having their own photo no longer be anon to others that participate on the site for whatever reason - be it council or not council. In my case, I hold staying anon during a challenge very dear. Some others may as well. To those that don't, then just discard what I said about it. No biggy, no harm meant. Just some newbies don't know about the participation of all members, including council.
I'm off for some props!

Um, Rose... although neither really happens, there are only two possible undesirable consequences of revealing your entry to an SC member before the challenge:
A) That it would affect your entry (low votes or DQ votes)
B) That it would affect the SC member's entry (withdraw or reshoot)
Since you've stated that neither was your intention, perhaps you can clarify. What exactly are you warning newbies about?

I don't understand what this has to do with the subject at hand, or what I said? Could you explain?

You seemed worried about the SC being only human. Ursula's point suggests a way that we can all avoid our only human flaws when voting in a challenge.
I don't vote in challenges I enter for the same reason - I'm just human too, SC or not. |

Wow, sorry about the big can of worms. I had an idea that pre-challenge opinions on legality were available, I just didn't know the procedure. And now it's on a second page.

NO need to apologize. You asked a very valid question, and had it answered very validly. It's not your fault that some people just don't ever seem to learn to just let things go.. in *ANY* case. You'll find that threads, even innocent ones, tend to blow up over the slightest little thing. Just have confidence that your question was answered, and go have fun doing your editing and shooting. Happy Day! |

Larrylights, in stating my own view, which I 'thought' was quite simple, is this BASED on my own understanding and practice:
1. Yes you can get a prevalidation.
2. A prevalidation to a challenge is by opinion only and there are no guarantees that will be the actual final answer if validation is needed during challenge.
3. You may or may not hear back the opinions from all or most council depending on timing of the sent in pre-challenge entry due to challenge dates, or personal duties of council, etc.
4. Lastly, just know that council are council, but are also members, and also enter challenges at this particular site.
With that, take that information and make your "own" best choice. Not mine, not anyones, but just your own of what you decide to do :)
You have no need to apologize for asking a very legitimate question, in my opinion. But all views on the subject of pre-challenge validations should be able to be stated without issue.
