one of my personal goals for 2006 is to learn more about different acts. i am completely befuddled when it comes to choosing music. i never grew up with it, and most of the time it's completely over my head.

all of my friends are super into indie groups and people that i have heard of but couldn't pick out of a lineup.

so, to all of you music heads out there: anyone wanna help me out? all i'm asking is for a cd of some of your favorite tunes and a list of the artist and song title. i'll even paypal you some postage if you'd like.

educate me! i'm dumb!

ps -- another group of friends of mine is doing a mix CD exchange thing that sounds like a lot of fun. if there's any interest, we could start something like that as well...

Me and a friend of mine were going to do that with each other for christmas presents one year (it never actually happened though).
The idea was the same: to give each other some music that we knew the other person didn't have but we ourselves enjoyed and would like to share with them.
If you can wait a week, I'll do a mix cd for you.

(I had to go back and change it to CD instead of tape!!!! Old Skool)

i would be very down with this! making mixes is my fave pasttime - and i can't do just ONE, i have to make like five of em. i'm a music hog. and i love spreading the joy (read= i love inflicting my music on people)

and, for what it's worth, i have excellent taste in music :)

i forgot to mention that non-usa music is way cool too. maybe i'll be able to introduce THEM to something new for once. :)

not a very active participant in this thread but i do happen to be on somewhat of a music collecting crusade myself. started off listening to just rock, decided to expand. for over half a year spent all the money i could get my hand on for new cds, totally worth it, still expanding. so yea i can totally relate to someone else wanting to expand their taste in music, so if you don't mind some wierd stranger sharing music with you i'd be happy to :P

I will give you one name. If you know of Ben Harper then great if not by Burn To Shine by hime or Diamonds on the Inside. YOU won;t be dissappointed.

I've downloaded off a website ( All of MP3before, and do not know if it is legal in the US, but the CD's are really cheap. They are also all organized for you so it is really easy to get a full cd and you can pick the quality you want.

I prolly woulda stuck a Cibo Matto or Pizicatto Five song on my mixer for Muck... but those are the only two Japanese bands I've come in contact with that really caught my attention.... I'd like to hear some more! :)
