My 10D package arrived yesterday!

Here are the first shots from it. This was all on auto. I have no clue how to shoot with this thing! I did anticipate a pretty steep learning curve and boy was I right!

I got the Canon 10D, Tamron 28-80/5.6, Sigma 70-300/5.6, Canon 550EX flash and various other "stuff" (batteries, charger, software etc.) I think it might be time to restart my PaD project to learn how to use this beast. I'm still not certain about these lenses, but I don't have enough knowledge yet to make an informed decision on whether to keep them or trade for something different.

Congrats! Should be a fun learning curve. I'd suggest that in the short term, you supplement those lenses tih the very inexpensive 50/1.8. It's a great, inexpensive way to see what kind of results a very sharp prime can produce. This will help you to evaluate your other lenses' performance.
Another suggestion; once you're comfortable with controls and have explored the menus, try shooting in Av (aperture preferred) mode, using the aperture to control DoF.
Welcome to Team Canon!

Learning how to use it is the best (and most frustrating) part of getting a new camera. Congratulations, Judy - have fun! I am just so happy to see a "10D" under your name instead of that depressing "no camera" that you've been living with since you sold your old one. Way to go!!

Well, I've made some progress with it this afternoon. I now have a pretty firm grasp of the basics of the operations - how to get to them, and how to change them. The real issue for me is the knowing what to have all the settings on to begin with!

Thanks for all the congratulations.

When do we get to see some new pics using the features you've been learning?

Probably tomorrow. All the one's I've taken so far are just random shots to test something I've read. Shots of my knee or the bookshelf or other outstanding subject matters LOL. Unfortunately, I do have other things to do (such as choir practice tonight), but my plan is to get out tomorrow and see what there is to play with!

edited to add: Oh, and I still don't understand many of the features, I just know where they are and how to adjust them.
