i pulled my entry from duotone after i saw the mad rush, 130 entries in fashion just looked a little more appealing, well see if i made a good choice

Duotone is not just turndown your saturation and give it a color wash! It's a matter of balance.

But my first scores just came in while I was typing and WOW!!!

I considered entering my Duotone shot in the Fashion challenge instead (it would have fit there) and now I wish I had. I didn't realize there were so many entries in this challenge. Gads! It's past 1 am and only 4 views and 3 votes so far. Bleah...

Well, occasionally you have one you wish you could take back. This is it. Had doubts to begin with and now it is official:

Looks like a sub five for sure and maybe even my personal lowest. Gonna be a long week. Oh well, on to the next!

Right there with ya.. lol, not too dissapointed, wasn't really the appropriate challenge, or treatment for that image

Yea turning off your score for the first day or two can save you alot of heartache...if you let it. Your score will level off after about 100 or so votes. After that you can turn it back on and be pretty sure what you see then will more likely be what you will end up with.

My score actually went up from vote 1 to 2... that's never happened... usually it goes from a 9 to a 4 or some such nonsense...

So there are 632 entries prior to any DQs. So I have a question.

How come nobody submitted anything truly bad?
I was really looking forward to having a few photos I could look at and be sure mine would do better than.

Oh well.

I'll be happy if we just stop voting now.

Just maybe duotone means the photo does not have to be over processed like a great deal of the color photos are. Just maybe a good duotone could be processed similar to an old warn out and faded picture. Come-on guys and gals, lets get away from thinking everything has to be bright, shiny, high contrast and over processed. Open our minds and look at art, everything is not bright with basic colors in hi definition full color hi contrast over-sharpened and over saturated. Yup I agree oversaturated pics can look good but also very unrealistic. This is photography not oil painting. A photo can be surrealistic and also realistic, both are good.

Everything can be good and everything can be bad but nothing is always correct in all situations. Everything is going to be alright. :)

I didn't realize you could turn off the viewing of the scores.... Think I'll do that to save me the constant refresh! Good Luck All!

gimme a break. it's not that bad.
02/22/2006 01:16:08 AM · #42
It definitely doesn't have to be a bright and shine picture. The duotone can only make a picture stronger when it is allready a good pic.

Someday I'll get a shot published in a BMX mag/catalog, and then enter it or an out-take in a challenge here and actually laugh about it scoring so poorly. I hope.

You can all relax about the brown..it's mine...and I actually like it...your horrid attempts to make me jump out the window won't work...in fact I am going to have it blown up as a poster..so yaboo sucks to all you non-commenting under 3 voters....

Long way to go Rikki....your score could plummet all the way down to 8.25 before the week's out. :-)
