I need help on which one is a better choice:

Canon 70-200 F4L - $500 Sigma 70-200 F2.8L - $675

Thank you so much

I own neither so take it for what it is worth; if you want better color rendition and lighter weight, go Canon. If you need the speed go Sigma. Neither are poorly spoken of by those who use them. I skipped both and went for the sigma 50-500. It is slow and heavy:)

One vote for the Canon 70-200 2.8 heh

Nah, I really like my Sigma...and if it comes to it in the future, I won't think twice before trying another one out...so yeah, like someone said, if you need the speed (and you probably will at one point or another) get the Sigma...I can't see the colors being that different...nothing a little photoshop can't fix anyway.

I'm a Canon snob so can't comment on the Sigma but have owned the F/4L for a while and considering upgrading to the Canon 70-200 F/2.8L IS. As Brennan says, if you don't need the extra stop then I'd go for the f/4 - its a stonker and my cheapest bit of L series glass!

F2.8 is potentially better then f4 so I would go Canon if you are willing to pay the extra cost.

get the sigma - the 2.8 is much better than 4.the sigma is a very good lens, you won't regret it. It will do everything the f4 lens will and give yo uone more stop - OR you can use a 2.0 converter on it to becomd a 400 lens, something you can't do on the f4 lens. (or if you try you get a 400f8 lens, yuk)

Sigma, speed is good.

I have the Sigma in another mount and it's very good.
The f2.8 is also gonna be better for isolating subjects than an f4.0 lens.

The Sigma is sharper wide open until f8 @ 200mm than the equiv Canon IS lens and color is also reported to be more neutral than the Canon ver too.

Hope this helps,
bazz.
