Taken tonight with tripod and remote. Nothing in the way of me and the subject. No UV filter or any filter used. No editing except auto levels and resize. Tree slightly out of focus because of wind.

Looks weird to be a flair. So what do you think it is.

no doubt it's a reflection of something else in the frame...

invert it and move it around, my guess is the bottom of that pole by the light.

EDIT: YEP...

Here it is, selected, copied, reduced opacity, mode multiply...along with some coordinates...

Looks like Lens Flare from a light on a Blimp that is also lit internally???

I think its aliens converging on you house to eat your brain.

Or a reflection, one or the other.

Looks like a bug flew in shot.

It's a ghost image of the very bright light in the bottom of the frame.

Good job...3 minutes and 20 seconds after I proved that.

Nice job explaining it. Thanks

Did you see something or did this just show up on the photo you took? It looks to me like it could have been an Iridium flare. There is a network of satellites that support the Iridium mobile phone service. These are phones that work anywhere--even in the middle of nowhere (like the middle of the Atlantic or the middle of the Sahara desert) where there are not any cell towers. The satellites have large solar panels that act like mirrors and reflect spots of sunlight down to the earth. From the earth, this looks like a very bright star-like light that appears suddenly, moves through the sky, and then disappears.

I saw one last Halloween. I was sitting on my front porch between visits of trick-or-treaters. I glanced up in the sky and noticed a bright star that I had not seen before. Then I noticed that it was moving, so it definitely was not a star. After just a few seconds, it faded out and was completely gone. Your image looks like it could have been an over-exposed, slightly out-of-focus image of this phenomenon.

There is a web site that has a lot of information about the Iridium flares and other visible satellites:

//www.heavens-above.com/

You can enter your location on this site and get predictions of when Iridium flares will be visible.

Oh, I knew it was nothing like that. I just wanted to know what caused it.

At first, I thought it may have been a UFO...no lie. That's why I did the investigating that I did...I was actually quite sad when I measured the pixles and found them the same distance from the opposite corners of the sensor. :(

I though it may have been an jet heading toward Atlanta International Airport because I'm about 100 miles south and in the flight path of a lot of aircraft. I can stand in my front yard and count at least a dozen jets heading north within a minute. And my shot was a 6 sec. shot. But the jets are at least 20,000 ft or more( I guess ).

That type of reflection is cause by a filter on the lens. If you are using a UV filter or something like that, it causes this issue when shooting into a light source in dark conditions... i have multiple examples of it...

My God Southern Exposure.

Destroy the evidence,now!

Black Ops helicoptors are silently hovering above your house as we speak.

Get out while you can.

What you captured in the frame only the Government wants to keep secret.

God Bless and good luck.

Don't PM me, I don't know you.

Why would they use crude helicopters when they have UFO's and teleporters?

There is no escape. :OP

I guess I'm screwed!! Ft. Benning military base is only about 15 miles south of me. They could have an heli here in a matter of minutes. If I hear chopper blades or the whistling sound of a tomahawk I will try to get a quick "see everyone late" post in. :)
