That's just a shot from the favorites list - it's by someone different and yes, I think it's one of the Icelandic DPC'ers or something.

DA is a haven for image thieves.

I had someone from DA publish one of my pictures in their magazine. That's the self-named editor of a magazine doing copyright infringment. *sigh* |

g'morning all! well, it appears that the image has been removed.
I haven't received any word at all from either the poster, or the site administrator, though I contacted both. Thanks to all who expressed their feelings on this incident.
I've got to admit that it, sadly, will make me think twice about uploading images - though I am sure that after a second thought I will continue anyway
Cheers - Bill |

Thanks Bill! would've been a pitty if you'd stop posting pics here. Glad you plan on sticking around. |

I take it that if we all started adding a standard watermark to our pictures that we posted for contests would ruin the contest and critiques? |

So please, refrain from sending threatening mail or hate mail, and let the people who are suposed to deal with these things deal with them.

And if the person is black you could be charged with a hate crime. |

What if I'm black and send the email? You totally misunderstand the law in this case. |

Then you would be exempt. I do not misunderstand the law. |

Left field !! sounds like someone has nothing better to do then incite a race debate. They would be better of taking photos then using their anger here and turning this into a rant.

I neither tried to incite a race debate or said anything in anger. I only stated a fact as a reminder to those who feel the need to threaten others or send hate mail. |

So what was with the whole black comment? I'm pretty sure both people involved are white...

I don't think you do know how the law is written. I'd bet you heard about the details of it on some KKK or Clear Channel radio station. The person does not have to be black to be a recipient of a hate crime under the law.

The DA admins don't actually seem to care much about copyright. They got abusive when I pointed out that my images were being used without my permission. |
This is what I mean...I know a lot of people who took off from dA months back when they started actually warning and banning people for complaining that their images are being stolen. dA's got a lot of awesome contributors, but as far as administration and art thievery goes...it's not a nice place sometimes. |

Wouldn't that be where the deviant part comes in?

I think the attitude there with a lot of members is, good or bad, if you put it up you put it up to share. A lot of the members claim no right to their work other then pride. The way this guy commandeered the Flight image violates even that. |

I just have to wade in here. First I am very glad that the thief was caught and that Flight has been removed from his gallery.
It was mentioned that deviantART is a haven for thievery....well yes and no - with a 1 million users the chance of this happening grows incrementally. Back in the day when it was a 'young' site this sort of thing was rare. Anytime you have a large 'population' you are going to have 'incidents' such as this.
I have an account at DA (and I know several DPC's have accounts there as well)- and as the site grew one thing I began to do was frequently check the RIP's forum and do a search to make sure none of my work has been ripped. Tis has not happened yet...
Again the course of action is to report the violators - if they are found to be in violation of many of the principles and terms of the site they will be banned. The latest from the Admins there is that serious offenders will have their page "removed" such that it will not be visible....
Bottomline is that whenever you post/upload your artwork there is ALLWays a chance that someone, somewhere will try to steal it - in personal blogs, other websites and such. If you upload your work to the web the keys are either to watermark it (some thiefs have and do remove this as that some well known artists at DA have complained), upload it at a smaller size, and/or keep a watch out for your work by do key word search for your images....It is crappy that we as photographers/artists have to keep our eyes open to make sure someone is not ripping our work but the reality is that is just one thing you have to watch out for now a days. |

DA rarely works for me. I always get a "too many redirects" message. |

I wonder if DA banned him?
I notice his account is still here on DPC.
In my opinion, his account should be removed just as if he had done it here.
Do you think they should remove him/ban him here?
