I wish I knew where that is. Is it near the city? Wish I could help you.

How far is lake placid? The adirondacks are beautiful (at least from the Vermont side) and they had the Olympics there - Burlington VT - riht across lake Champlain - is very nice too - university town. Must be something nice over the boarder in Canada... Or how about BOSTON??? A zoo, great museums, duck boat tours... Just thinking out loud here...

Just googled the map and saw how far west you are... How about western MA - the Berkshires are beautiful. There are some nice ski areas (small) and Stockbridge has a Norman Rockwell Museum... Very New England. The best zoo I've ever been to is the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence R.I. It is only 45 min south of Boston, but would be over 4 hours from you for sure. But Toronto is a hop skip and a jump - Never been there myself but I've hear all kinds of great things about that city.

Okay, did a little checking, dang it's cold up there right now! Brrrrrrrrrr! :)

This is supposed to be my "re-charge" time and I'm taking Ellie with me for company. But the way things are going it just may be spend a night in a local hotel and call it a day. Wrong time of year to be out shooting and most museums are closed until Memorial day............

Okay, 4.5 hours to Toronto, Ellie gets to see another country, will probably be cold as all get out, LOL. hummmmmmmmmmm.

Maybe we'll just go to Niagra Falls, she doesn't remember being there before

Toronto? cold?

Here's a list of major cities within a 6 hour drive of you:

Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland.

If it were me, given the time of year, I'd probably choose DC or Baltimore. But remember, there is supposed to be a rather large Nor'Easter hitting the east coast this weekend, so maybe you should consider going west instead.

Good luck and I hope you make it somewhere fun!

edit: can't spell pittsburgh (must be superbowl backlash ;-)

Montreal is a beautiful city, exchange rate is still slightly in your favour, and yes it's cold, but dress in layers and you'll be fine. Plus Montreal has all of it's underground connections downtown, so it's not that bad.

I'd pick Montreal over Toronto, but that's just me.

Check out Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, halfway between Harrisburg and Philadelphia. That's Amish country, and it's beautiful and serene and full of interesting things and people. Here's their regional web site: //www.800padutch.com/reasons.shtml

Thanks everyone. Not going for a couple of weeks, waiting until Ellie has a little more time off school. So keep those ideas coming and then one night Ellie and I will sit down and decide where/when and what we are going to see. Maybe even a who or two as well if any DPC'rs are in the area we decide to go to.

Update: We have decided on the Poconos in PA. Only about 2.5 hours away and I found a great resort that has everything! Split Rock in Lake Harmony, PA. Ellie is going to be thrilled. We will probably go over St. Patrick's day weekend since Melissa has basketball for another week or so, I have a couple of job, one photographic, one pet sitting and then they have state tests. The timing will be good, nice stress reliever after the state tests.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions!

Check out Ithaca. Great college town (Cornell Univ) and wonderful geography and geology all around. The greater finger lakes area is a wonderfully beautiful place to wander around. I used to live in Syracuse. Upstate NY is great!

Shelburne Falls, Mass. and the surrounding area.

Ithaca's not really at its prettiest right now...winter is kinda sad here. Can't get to a lot of the waterfalls (although sometimes they're frozen and that's a sight). I'd venture to the mountains if anything...Poconos will be cool. Lake Placid or Lake George is stunning if you're going to do it again any time soon...about 4.5 hours from Ithaca (Elmira a little further I think). Some great resorts there too.

Edited because I just noticed I'm the only registered user in this thread. Funny.

Are you guys baseball fans? If so I'd reccommend Cooperstown. Every time I go there I wish I had more time to spend.
