I'm part of a photo group in Los Angeles, CA and we're interested in getting some more newbies out and decided to have a share the wealth day. Where we can get newbies to try out some members Eos lenses and also go over some basic concepts such as:
Composition, rule of threes, etc.
Different Metering Modes
Depth of field control
understanding histograms for the digitally impared
bokeh???
Perspective/distortion control
shutter speed rules
Fill in Flash/High sync flash/Flash exposure compensation (FEC)
Huntington would be ideal as it is very photogenic with all stationary
subject such as buildings, flowers, statues, landscapes.
After we are done, we can goto a coffee shop or something and I can
whip up my laptop and go over RAW processing and cirtique shots and
have an informal RAW adjustment/tutorial with RawShooter Premium.
FYI, I'll bring the following lenses.
> Canon 50mm f1.8 Mark II
> Canon 70-200mm L f2.8
> Sigma 15mm EX DG fisheye
> Sigma 50-500mm f4-5.6 EX DG
> Tamron 17-35mm f2.8-4SP Di
> Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 SP XR Di
> Lensbaby 2.0
Another member will probably bring along
Canon EF-S 10-22
Canon 24-70L
Canon 70-200L f2.8 or a Canon 70-200 f4L
Canon EF-S 60mm macro
Sigma 50-500 EX DG
Lensbaby 2.0
PM me or check out the LA Shooters if you are interested.

What time are you meeting there? I'm still up in the air for Sunday, but that sounds like it would be a great chance to learn a lot. I went to the Huntington Gardens about a month ago for the first time. I really enjoyed it.

Wonderful idea, Tom! Unfortunately, I am pretty far south in San Diego, and besides I am a Nikonite :)
I've been to the Huntington library a few times, a great place for photography indeed! Here is one shot from there I have in my DPC portfolio

Got your private messege. Everyone is welcome, not just people living in LA or Canonites.
If you want to try out different types of lenses (macro, bigma, etc) just bring along a CF card and you can borrow one of the Canon cameras (I'll have my Rebel XT and by backup camera-1D Mark II N, and Gary will have a 20D) and see how the images come out.
Fritz, you're FedEx'ing the Zeiss, right?
=)

Well it was a nice turn out edmeng from here, Leon (sp.?) and his wife, Gary, Mary Lou (his girlfriend), Derick from here, another local photog, and I all made it out there.
Unlike the rest of the country, I think it was about 80 degrees, sunny, and dry.
Fun was had by all.

I'd like to do another one in the near future at the Getty. More architectural, landscape, and flower type stuff.
I think playing photo editors with the laptop after shooting is nice.
Here's my Getty gallery for review.

I'm waiting for things to quiet down at the Getty Villa but that's definately in the near future.
If anyone is intersted in doing a "Share the Wealth" day again at the Getty Museum, let me know.
