After going to bed around 10pm last night, I settled in for a restful night of sleep. Around 11pm, I was awakened by my youngest son, crying and saying his head hurt and his stomach hurt. I told him to climb up in the bed with me, and just as we got comfortable, bleeeeechhhhhh...you guessed it. All over my bed.
I got up, cleaned up, put in a load of laundry after I got him situated on the sofa, and then sat down in the recliner. I dozed off to sleep...but about an hour later, here we go again. Now it's 6am and we've played out this same routine just about every hour all night. I've given him the standard Pedialyte and water in small sips, and he's finally feeling just a tiny bit better...but boy am I beat.
Now I'm waiting for the other two to start. We're a family that loves to share everything, you know.
I know you other parents can sympathize, and those without children yet...it's just part of the whole package.

Uh oh. Flu? I suppose you'll be included with the other two. Been there, done that. Take a day or two off to spend relaxing with your sick family. I've always said, the family that barfs together, stays together. ;-)

I like to cling to the faint hope that in my past decade in education I have been exposed to every bug there might be floating around...I have a pretty strong constitution so maybe it will skip me.
I know that one of his classmates was sick on the playground a couple of days ago...I got to hear about it in glorious detail. I hope it's just a 24 or 48 hour stomach bug that will pass quickly.

Ugh! I totally get ya, Laurie. Its kids' goal in life to keep our lives disrupted.
Its 7am and I'm awake because my daughter just called to tell me about the car accident she was just involved in on the way to school - HER BOYFRIEND HIT HER CAR!!! UGH!!! They were apparently racing for a parking space! His SUV won, her little Geo lost! Some days I hate kids!! lol |

| Update to say: School nurse called to say her bruises are minor and she should be okay. SHE WAS IN A PARKING LOT FOR GOD'S SAKE!! Now they tell me the drivers' side door is caved in and the window broken. Going to check out the damage.... :( |

| Well, here's hoping it's just flu -- when Isaac woke up with a stomach-ache a couple of months ago he ended up getting his appendix taken out. |

Ohman Laurie, I feel your pain. We just survived our four going through it in rapid succession.
Hope you all recover soon and that it misses you completely. |

Oh, no! I hope the little guy feels better soon.
Keep that stuff up north, btw - if it's anything like the bug that went around last year, i'll pass on it!

Ya, but she's further north than me! Besides, from south Texas to north Texas, it's like 3 states. :P

It's tough when young kids are looking at you with that dazed look like you're supposed to make it go away.
I love that scene in Parenthood where Steve Martin says to his little girl "Do you want to throw up?" "Ok."
Good luck! |

Look on the bright side, at least you didn't get pooped on.

Ugh, I would rather be pooped on!
Right around New Years, we had it. It started with my son... then my hubby and I just had an upset stomach and then my daughter in full force! Being emetophobic (fear of vomit or vomiting) it was torture for me! My daughter happened to do it when I was all alone. I was on the phone with my hubby when she did it, and I started freaking out - full blown panic attack style! Hyperventilating, shaking...etc etc He rushed home from work to take care of her. All I could do, is sit up in my room and panic - for 2 days!
I do feel so bad for them when they are sick though. They just look so confused and so helpless.
I hope your little one feels better soon! |

| I feel for you. My two little ones traded the stomach virus and a respiratory thing back and forth several times between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Ugh |

| We had the same thing just before Christmas. Mom sick in one bathroom, the oldest and middle kids sick in their rooms. The youngest luckily okay, but demanding attention. And me sick but had to do it cause mom could move with talking "Ralph". I didn't sleep for two days, running between the four and cleaning messes. |

Just went thru that last month and we were on vacation! it sucks when your kids are sick- I felt so bad when my son wanted to go out and play in the snow and he couldn't. Just a suggestion- we empty out a waste can and put a liitle water in it next to the bed. Helps when they can't quite make it to the bathroom.
It's hard, but still it's one of the easier hard things we do isn't it? :0) |

| Life just gets more interesting...after an additional couple of episodes, we went to the local ER. He was dehydrated, so he needed an IV (fun for a 5 year old), bloodwork, and a urinalysis. Luckily all labs were fine and the doc thinks it's just a garden-variety stomach bug. We were sent home just a few minutes ago with a lovely Rx for what my kids affectionately call "butt pills." The joy continues! :) |

We had our first experience with this type of action about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Our toddler's first stomach eviction happened in the minivan :-( , but fortunately, just two minutes from home :-) . Then, recurrences about every hour or less over four hours...almost ran out of clean sleepers and cribsheets. The bug went to Mom and Dad, too.
Oh, well. It passes...

Ooh, I HATE giving those "butt pills" but man, they really work! We also keep a box of Feverall's in the fridge that are great to have in case they spike a high fever.
Edit: (not at the same time though)
