I'll see what I can arrange!! It will depend on the conversion I am involved with but a trip to Gatlinburg (where we got married) is WAY overdue!!! Will let you know as time gets closer!!

I will be there from the 11th of March till the 18th. Any day during that time will be good for me. I don't care.

nards656 and I are definitely still interested. we can't make any solid commitments at this point, but if you get the day set, we'll do our darndest to make it. :)

I know I can't make it during the week. Best I can do is Friday thru Sunday and then have to get back for work & school schedules. I'll be watching for dates!!

somebody should just pick a date

Is Saturday the 18th bad for you, Mandy, since it is your "last day" there? The odds of me being able to get a Friday off are worse than the odds of getting a Saturday off, but if you want to pick Friday, I can start trying to work the schedule and plan for it. A day "during" the week would be virtually impossible for me at this point. (I can get off during the week for emergencies or iimportant family events, but I don't want to abuse my privileges if I can prevent it).

I'll be in a cabin near Asheville, NC, on 3/24-3/28, to escape the Mardis Gras madness.

Coming to asheville to escape madness. I guess only a "local" (near Asheville) can appreciate that. ;)

If you want to get together with nards656 and I, we live about 20 minutes west of asheville

Ha, I guess madness is all relative.

I probably won't have time to GTG, since I'll have the family in tow. But thanks for the offer.

Sending you a PM.

Nice area......BUT...

March is kind of too early.
Forest is naked (no leaves)
No flowers.
Rivers are very large (no visible rocks)
Tennessee is kind of stormy in March, lot of nasty weather might happen.
Bears are HUNGRY ,and they are everywhere ,even on hotel parking lots :-)

Who knows,maybe I will show up !

Huh?

Taken in early March last year in the GSMNP, and as for your list of reasons why not...you're kidding right? : }

...but what do I know...I only live here...

Yea, I'd take issue with the large rivers line.

But, then again, the bear part is right. ;)

My family has taken a trip to the Smokies in late Feb. three times, and the weather has always been gorgeous. Definitely no greenage, but also no crowds!

The only problem I see for me for the 18th is that my daughter is going to be in a beauty pagent on the 24th of Feb. If she makes the top three we will have to be back on friday night to put her in the Irish Day Parade on Sat morning. What about the 12th?

The 12th should be okay. Unless the husband has a project due that next week.

If you want a change of pace from landscapes, aquariums and the like, there is a road about 45 minutes south of Pigeon Forge (US Hwy 129) that attracts serious motorcycle riders, particularly sport bikes, who ride it like a public racetrack. You can find many spots off the side of the road to pull over and take some interesting shots. It's also all natural forest around, for the most part, so no visual ugliness in the backgrounds.

I live in Knoxville and would be glad to give you specific directions or other ideas if you'd like.

Oh dang guys...my wife and I will actually be there on the 25th and 26th. Of course we are having a romantic weekend alone so it probably works out best that I'm not running around with a bunch of photographers.

Even though I'm not going I will input my 2 cents. Start out EARLY and go to Cades Cove, on your way up the hill from Gatlinburg just past the welcome center stop here

and shoot the sunrise. Then continue on to Laurel falls

it is a little bit of a hike but beautiful and worth it. Then spend the rest of the day at Cades Cove photographing the deer, churchs and even the beautiful cemetary. If you turn right before the welcome center on the way out of Gatlinburg you could also stop and the lesser beautiful (but still beautiful) Catarac (spelling?) falls...that's where we got married.

Have fun and be careful everyone.

oh and by the way...if you do go to Aquarium (well any ripley's attraction actually) here are some tips...first off if anyone is in the military, go get reduced tickets for everyone, they will save you a HUGE bundle and you can buy quite a few at a time, they are even good for a whole year if you don't get a chance to use them. We went to one ripley place and bought the maximum amount but was still a few short so we went to another and bought more. You can buy any of the ripley tickets at any ripley place (I think there are 5 of them).
Second again if you go to the Aquarium and you go up the ramp to shoot the pirania (spelling again?) WATCH YOUR KNEES!!!! I split mine open on the rock wall they have in front of it cause it is so dark.

The 12th prolly works; my schedule can be a real problem and thus I simply can't guarantee anything yet. The folks I work for are terrifically accommodating in many ways yet ridiculously over-expectant at the same time; we do a LOT of work for a VERY large tire manufacturer in Greenville, SC, and the general expectation is "if you want our business, you'll turn over heaven and hell to do what we want, regardless." I am hoping that the two projects that are due at the end of February will actually be done on time; at that point I'll be able to be more committal. Until then, I just have to say "maybe". :(

So who is on the list?

My exhibit at Dangenart Gallery in Nashville ends on March 11, so I'll probably be going back down to pick up my artwork around that time. I'll be driving right by y'all, so I may be able to meet you too. I luv Tennessee! :-)

(I'm going to be passing through next week around the 16th too...)

I live two hours away from Nashville. Where is that gallery? I might go check it out.

I need to go back to this place one of these days. I went once and it was horrible weather and when it was finally good enough to go out I went to Laurel Falls and slipped and hurt my bum for a week. Bah, maybe I should stay away, bad luck place for me.

Is this likely to really happen or not? 3/12 is really starting to look like a tough day for me to vacate due to work, so please don't depend on Karmat and me.

If it happens, we'll make it if we can, if not, cool.
02/15/2006 03:19:40 PM · #49
Well I have already planned the trip so I WILL be there. If we need to change the day that is fine with me. If we do it on the 11th (the day I arrive) I can't meet early in the morning. It takes me 4 hours to get to the smokies, we will probably be there around noon-1:00pm.

For now, we'll just play it by ear, okay? Maybe things will settle down with nards and we can make it. I hope so. ;0
