I tried something different.
Not the finished one yet. I just wanted to see if this looked ok.

I don't like the second straw hat picture as much as the one that's all in sepia, JS. I love the one from the back. It's just too precious. |

I liked where you were going with the added color, but think it was just a little too strong. Hope you don't mind that I tried a quick take at it - I tried to explain what I meant in my comments, but this shows more what I mean. I also bumped up the contrast in the background, on her hat, and on her eyes.

I left a comment too on the one where she's facing the camera. The other one. . .well. .its really hard to select around a subject like that and not leave definite edit marks. One technique I've used and had a little better luck at making it look more natural is to create a top layer. Blur the whole top layer, then create a layer mask and erase the top layer just where the girl is. You don't always have to ge right to the edges and sometimes you can't even tell that you've done it. Anyway. . .for whatever that's worth. But you have a great eye for composition. . .and you certainly have a lovely little model!!! :)

I for one would be better able to comment on if the edits are good if I could see the original. EG: Why did you decide to blur out the b/g in the first shot and why did you decide to desat the second... |

Um..Don't know just playing with my new software. Microsoft Digital Suit 2006. I am an idiot and forgot to copy the originals. I will get the originals from the cd and post them to let everyone see them. |

I wouldn't normally ask, but you made such big changes to them... On the desat one you should try doing the desat on layers and the fade them back a bit so some of the color comes through but muted... That would give it a very cool old timey feeling! |
