We are going to Washington state in March and Im trying to plan some things to see. The wife and I are going with her friend and her husband and daughter. We have a few places picked out, but wanted to get some more ideas.

here is our itinerary, we will make day trips from each place we are staying.

Fly in to Seattle on 3/1, then drive to Sequim.
2 nights in Sequim
3 nights in La Push (Indian Reservation called Ocean Park)
3 nights on Lake Quinault
1 night in Seattle at Pikes Place (famous fish market where they throw the fish)

Thanks

In Seattle, I think the Aquarium/Science Center is down the waterfront a ways from Pikes Place. For a touristy thing, the tour of the Underground City can be interesting. You can take the ferry to Bremerton (or any of several places) and back -- if you can go without a car and have halfway-decent weather (it does happen!) it can be fun and relatively hassle-free.

Once you hit the olympic peninsula, I'm not positive about the ferries, but I would consider a trip to the San Juan islands or even a jaunt as far as Victoria...

I was going to suggest driving around the Olympic Peninsula, but it didn't sound like they'd have that much time in that part of the state, though I don't know exactly where all those places are.

With very limited time in Seattle, I'd suggest a trip on the "ducks".

They are yellow amphibious vehicles that take you on a tour of Seattle via road, then drive down into and across Lake Union .We scared our 9 year old daughter.... didn't tell her about the boat part of it. The tour guide briefly stopped to put on goggles and snorkles "just in case" before entering the water.

The tour is very entertaining if you have a sense of humour that lets you join in silly songs and games etc, plus you get to see a fair bit of scenery.

Sequim, Washington is on Puget Sound west of seattle. It's within easy day-trip distance of the eastern portion of Olympic National Park. Not to be missed.

Definitely hit Olympic Park. There are SO many places to stop as you travel back to Seattle from Sequim. My husband and I were there a couple of years ago (the same places even!) and really enjoyed a stop at the Hoh National Rainforest, near Forks. It's a beautiful park. We took a short hike (1-2 hours at a SLOW pace) and stopped every 5 minutes to take a photo :-) Certainly make a stop if you enjoy being out in nature.

Checkout my website and you can get some ideas where to shoot in Washington while you are here.

Hi,

I live in Forks, WA, close to where you will be part of your time. Contact me outside this forum for some suggestions. Check out www.forkswa.com

That's the local Chamber of Commerce Web Site.

Washington is a big state and it sounds like much of your time is going to be on the Olympic Peninsula--geographically challenged from the rest of the state.

Here is a Photography forum in the Puget Sound area that has a number of guys that shoot a lot in the area: //www.nwphotographers.net/forum/

Here is another Pacific Northwest forum that is part of the bigger Nature group that has a number of very good and knowlegable photographers that shoot in the area. //pacificnw.naturephotographers.net/index.htm

If you have the time, you should try to get down to the Columbia River Gorge. It's about 2 to 3 hours south of Seattle (depending on trafffic and how you drive) but the 25 mile streach along the Old Scenic Highway just east of Portland is well worth seeing. Lots of waterfalls right along the road, plus good scenic vistas over looking the Columbia River.

If you go to Hood River (about 60 miles east of Portland) and then take hwy 35 south, you can get some good views of Mt. Hood near by and Mt. Baker back north on the Washington side. If you come down I5 you will also pass Mt. St. Helens, an active volcano that keeps us all on our toes from time to time. :D It's not too far east of I5 just north of Vancouver, WA.

There is a lot of stuff to see and photograph in both Washington and Oregon, hopefully you will get a good chance to see a lot of it.

Ah, I've been around the Olympic Peninsula, and my dad lives on the South Sound, but somehow I've never gone through Sequim.
