What is better. To use Neat Image etc before editing the photo, or after the editing is done. I know you must sharpen after editing, but what about noise reduction? I always run Neat Image before I edit.

Excellent question!
Noise reduction, with NeatImage or anything else, should be used early in your workflow. The reason is simple. Any later post processing applied that renders different results dependant upon the noise in the original will be faulty if applied before noise reduction.
Unlike sharpening, it is always a good idea to apply noise reduction early in your workflow.
I normally create a duplicate of the background layer at the very beginning where I apply NeatImage, cloning and possibly other global image changes and I name the new layer the "adjustment" layer.

I would suggest doing it first.
You can always repeat it selectively via a mask later on if you have a particularly noisy part of an image.

As soon as you open the file, particularly if you are doing EXIF based camera profiling. Once you start changing things the noise profile quickly diverges from the original profile.

Thanx for the input. That's what I do too, but it is better to ask ;-)
