Originally posted by myself: doesn't it just gripe the hell out of you, having to share elbow room with all those damn little p&s's ;-) |
just a note... this issue is something bob and i (and others) have to do with all the time. we are paid to go and cover events, and we have worked hard to earn the credentials that allow us access to be able to do our jobs. unfortunately, that access is coveted by many people who are not really professionals, but instead, people with cameras that are ill-equipped to do professional work. and they misrepresent themselves to those giving out credentials, they wind up getting in the way of the rest of us who are actually working.
this is not a slam against p&s's--i have taken many excellent photos with them. my problem is with the people that have no clue as to what their camera can and can't do, and consequently, get in the way of others.
seriously, there is not a single consumer p&s on the market that is capable of capturing a media-worthy action shot at a nascar race. but that doesn't stop someone from trying to get a photo credential...and when they get one, they come out to the track and enjoy themselves, trying to get shots, all the while blissfully ignorant of stepping in front of others, or the fact that they may have kept someone else who legitimately needed the credential from getting it (and yes, for many events, the credentials are extremely limited).
just my .02...
edit: great shots, btw!
edit #2: for clarity

After that festival, I made sure I always had a stepladder at festivals. Quickest way to tell who the pro snappers are at festivals.

i'm surprised they let you bring a stepladder, but that's cool.
my only "pit" experience was at the pro tennis tournament in miami last spring. man, do NOT get in the way of someone with a 600mm canon who wants a shot of serena's ass hanging out of her drawers. they are viscious! |
